Relocating within Thailand

Featured Replies

I am moving northeast from Pattaya and have enough personal effects and furniture to need a moving company. Anyone with any experience with a Thai moving company?

Thank you.

If you have a Thai friend to go with you, go out on Sukhumvit road just before you get to Homeworks/Big C (coming from Na Jomtien). You will see several of the big highway trucks parked by the curb. These are the ones with mud flaps painted with tigers, Elvis, etc. Those guys will haul your stuff to Issan at the best price. For 8,500 baht you get it all, including a worker or two to load and unload your stuff. Your Thai friend can ride in the truck with them.

Great lead, especially since I live about 1 km from that place and I have a Thai houseboy who is moving with me.

Thanx

Do you also have a lead on where I might get boxes and packing material?

If it still exists, I've seen a Pack and Ship place on Sukhumvit, on the west side (the beach side) between Pattaya Tai and Pattaya Klang.

Also, you can buy boxes at UPS outlets. The nearest to you is on Second Road, right near the Boyztown area.

You can also ask at grocery stores and large hardware stores, such as HomeWorks and Big-C. THey might give boxes to you.

I think Pattaya has an Office Depot and they have boxes and all other supplies. I used them recently in Bangkok and was able to find everything I needed at a very reasonable price.

Living in a big condo building in Bangkok, I see daily many moves in progress into and out from my building complex. They are all handled efficiently by local moving companies who provide all the labor and boxes and packing to do it easily from door to door.

A while back i ordered some teak furniture to be made in that huge furniture village just south of Chiang Mai. The shop arranged with a local mover who shipped down all the furniture to my condo including positioning and removing all the packing for just about 5% of the furniture value.

Here is a list of some movers/storers in the Pattaya area taken from the Thai yellow pages:
