Am I alone in finding Halloween incredibly boring? (Probably yes )

Same same. I'm rather surprised that the US trick-or-treat tradition carries on in this day and age. First we tell young kids not to talk to or contact strangers but, for one evening a year, we shuffle the kids all over town to strangers' houses to ask for candy. Rather bizzare in my view and, if I had any kids that age, they'd be going to a chaparoned party or only to houses of friends and relatives.

I'm reminded of the sad tale of a fun-loving 16-year old Japanese exchange student in Baton Rouge, Yoshihiro Hattori. In 1992, after being in the US for less than two months, he was searching for the house where he'd been invited to attend a Halloween party. Approaching one in the darkness, he encountered a man holding a rifle shouting "Freeze!" Not understanding nor being aware that in the USA you can own a real gun, Hattori assumed this was all part of the Halloween ritual. He walked forward to shake the man's hand and introduce himself. He was then shot dead with a .44 magnum. The murderer did not go to jail because the court found he was legitimately protecting his property!

 

That's as good a reason as I can think for eliminating Halloween altogether - to say nothing about abolishing the right to own a firearm. But I shall not go any further down that rickety road!

Being a New Yorker and going to the Village Halloween Parade for umpteen years, I love Halloween. The BF and I would always dress up and hit the town with the parade first and the gay clubs second. We stayed out till all the bars were closed. I loved it and still do.

 

This year I was on a plane from NYC to LA on Halloween Day. The people in the airport were dressed up and some very naughty outfits. Our flight attendants were also dressed but not to break any rules. It was a fun day and then I got to LA in time to hit a bar or two before the night closed and also enjoyed seeing the fun in LA. Not quite the same as New York but still enjoyable.

 

I am glad the Pattaya Players keep getting involved in the community and shining. Great job!
