I am sure many in LOS love the new movies that come out. What do you plan to see this year?

 

I loved Avatar and Up in the Air. Both were amazing. I don't know if Precious came to Thailand yet but if you get a chance to see this picture, it is an incredible piece of acting and directing. I would recommend all 3. For the Thai boy, take him to see Ninja Assassins. My BF loved it!

I saw Did you Hear what Happened to the Morgans. The reviews were horrible. The movie was even worse than the reviews. Save it for DVD.

I've seen both 'Avatar' and 'Precious.' The special effects in 'Avatar' amazed me, and I'm hard to amaze. The basic story is not exactly what I would call on par with 'The Lion in Winter' or 'On Golden Pond,' but if you like 3-D and incredible special effects, then I think 'Avatar' is well worth seeing. I thought it was a little too long, though. It runs 2 hours and 40 minutes. I think at least 20 minutes could have been cut without diminishing the movie at all.

 

I thought 'Precious' was excellent, intelligent, thoroughly believable, and every actor was fabulous. I hope this movie is nominated for an academy award. I could easily see the girl nominated for Best Actress and the mother nominated for Best Supporting Actress. In my opinion, 'Precious' is a definite don't miss film, especially if you come from the USA.

I just can't pass up a chance to show my lack of sophistication, but I saw Precious and wished I hadn't. It's true, the acting is believeable and well crafted, but the story line left me depressed and other than illuminating the well known tragedy of growing up poor, black and ghetto bound in the US I could see no point to the film.

I'll start by mentioning that this film has already won numerous awards and has been nominated for many more.

 

I don't see why you found it depressing. I don't want to reveal anything that might spoil the film for those who have not seen it, but I found it just the opposite. The most I will say is that when someone is living a situation in which there is virtually no chance in life, but that one chance comes along and that someone takes it, win or lose, against all odds, despite all obstacles, that is something I think is very uplifting.

I saw the film depressing and very hard to watch at times. I think the positives of the film really outweigh that. It was an amazing piece of work.
