Returned from the US yesterday. Left from New York on Korean Air. After a two hour stop in Seoul finally got to Bangkok. While the flight is its usual long self, this airline does have some pluses. One is that the rows of seats are further apart than many others. Secondly, the flight crew is much more attuned to one's comfort than others I have taken and this includes, EVA, Cathay Pacific and Thai Air. Give them a try.

I used to fly Korean Air occasionally from LAX. The only problem I found was, at that time, there was a 5 hour layover in Seoul.

The service was good, the schedule to Bangkok was great, but on the way back to Canada their schedule was horrible, we left 2 AM from bangkok and arived 8AM in seoul and left Seoul around 6 PM,

So I prefer Cathey Pacific, lots of different schedules.

Since Korean Air was partners with NW and now Delta, I usually look for them. However their prices have been consistently 20% higher then any of the other airlines.

 

Anyone have tips for finding good prices on Korean.

I have always used Norcross Travel. Rhonda gets the best price. This time it was $1,100.

Regarding Rhonda, it works both ways. A couple years ago I went back to the USA for a few weeks. I did all the price checking online that I could and went to some Thai travel agencies. Then I called Rhonda. Even when the trip originates in Thailand, she still was able to get me a price hundreds of dollars less than anything else I could find.

I can not agree more. I fly them direct to Chiang Mai (via Seoul) from the US, and I have received excellent service. Do give them a try.

Has anyone flown Asiana, the other Korean airline? It gets 5 stars from Skytrax, one of only 6 airlines to qualify for the top rating - the others being Singapore, Cathay Pacific, Malaysia, Qatar and Kingfisher. I'd be interested in knowing what its service is like.

I'm sorry. I do have a life away from the message boards and did not see your message until now. When I bought my tickets through Rhonda, I always got the miles.

Just make sure you let Rhonda know you want the miles. I think there were times that she could have gotten even less expensive rates if you were willing to forfeit the miles, so make sure she knows you want flights with miles available.

 

Don't forget, my information may not be accurate now. Except for the one time I used her 2 years ago, since living in Thailand the last time I used Rhonda was in 2004. You'll probably get better answers from people who have used her more recently.

 

An even weirder idea is to just call Rhonda and ask . . .

If you are a Delta Skymiles member, be careful flying Korean. I took Korean a few years back and for some reason that I cannot recall, the travel agent cut the ticket as KE not DL even though it was the same planes and everything. Well, when I got back from LOS I found out that DL would not credit me any FF miles for the trip! DL told me the only way they credit miles on KE is if it is considered a regularly scheduled DL flight. Now that DL and NW merged and DL has the old NW routes to BKK, it may be even more difficult to get DL miles flying on KE, but I'm only speculating.

 

I will say one thing for KE, I've never seen flight attendants check the lavs and replenish them as much as they did on KE, including stocking them with loads of toothbrushes.

Just a comment for balance. I called Rhonda today looking for a ticket Bangkok to the USA in August with a 2 week stay.

 

Told her I was completely flexible in the dates. She said August is high season which of course I already knew and told me ticket would be around $2200.

 

I told her I could find online for $1950- $2000.. Her response was high season , nothing she could do.

 

So a complete failure .

 

 

Maybe I'll give her another chance in October and maybe not!!!!!!
