Already decided: Yaya will have a free internet station for patrons to use for checking their emails, etc.

My opinion is it would not be necessary. I believe Corner Bar, directly across the street from you, already has WiFi. But how many of your customers do you think are going to Sunee Plaza while carrying a laptop computer?

I prefer to use the laptop in my hotel and go to the bars for fun in the evening, without carrying anything expensive.

If you plan to open earlier in the day and serve coffee or lunch, it might be a very good idea.

 

You might pick up some business from people whose accommodation still doesn't have wifi. I think wifi is essential in hotels.

I did venture around the corner to a coffee shop after having a wifi "problem" in my guesthouse last year.

 

If the bar across the road has wifi, why not do a laptop count & compare the estimated profit with the cost of providing the service?

I disagree with the others. I think it is a GREAT idea. I have an IPhone and love to get my mail when I am out. I am a regular checker and I do tend to frequent places that I know has wifi.

 

Now the new IPads are coming out and they are going to be easy to carry as well. I think having wifi in any bar is a fantastic idea.

Just what is not needed, WiFi in a beer bar. What next a big screen TV with sports events? I go to these places to get away from the distractions of the real world. Only distraction I want is a hot Thai boy and a cold beer.

Most go to get away from the distractions of the "real" world but some have to keep in touch with it just the same and more often than not, employers expect quick action when they send an e-mail even on vacation.

I don't see how WiFi in a Sunee Plaza beer bar is going to make things more attractive to customers. When was the last time you saw anyone walking through Sunee Plaza carrying a laptop computer? Who would even want to? Maybe one or two who have needs such as GT pointed out, but enough to justify the expense of providing WiFi? I don't think so. YaYa already said he'll have free Internet stations.

 

I've met and seen all kinds of people around here, but I have yet to ever see anyone headed for a beer bar to sit there spending their evening using a laptop computer to access the Internet. If people really want to do that, I certainly have no objection, but somehow I don't foresee people headed to YaYa on the basis that he's got WiFi available. What are people going to do, go to YaYa with their laptops and start cruising Gay Romeo?

 

If he's going to spend money on something, wouldn't he be better off spending it on something a lot of people would want? Now, if he starts giving away ear plugs for people who want to go into the go-go bars where the music is played loud enough to shatter triple reinforced concrete, then he might have something. But WiFi? What's the point? What's the attraction?

I would say, if the cost isn't all that much, go ahead and do it. I have a couple of friends that carry around PDA's and iPhones that like to google things when questions come up in conversation. I'm sure there are more people like that. It would also allow you to move your computer freely around the bar at whim. Even to the office for a web-cam break during the slow rainy season (wink wink, nudge nudge)

As others have said, it's much less for laptop use than iPhones and other hand held devices. A number of the friends I go out with are always checking things on their phones in the bars. My phone is a phone with no bells and whistles, so WiFi wouldn't attract me. But it might others.

 

I still think getting some cute staff & dressing them well is the way to pull in customers.

I see. Of course, a phrase probably much more appropriate when referring to me would be, "Happy as a pig in shit . . ."

In this case "Dressing them well" = state of partial undress. Swimming trunks and some elegant sleeveless t shirts should do it, for an open fronted "beer bar".

 

ONE completely nude bar in Pattaya might be an interesting change if it's tastefully done. However, mostly I think it's best to keep one item of clothing on in the gogo bars, maybe two items in the beer bars. Especially in open fronted bars, as presumably Yaya still is.

I think wi-fi makes good business sense. If you have already decided to have a computer station the cost is almost zero. But a good wifi modem router maybe important.

 

I have an iphone an my Thai friend has a HTC Legend android phone. Their are many reasons someone would want to use it in a bar. If nothing else, to check the latest SPI update and use google maps to show the motorbike taxi where you live. And when I figure how to use this 5 month old iphone, I'll have more ideas.

I have decided TO HAVE complimentary wifi in Yaya.

 

 

Already have internet for computer station so why not just add wifi.

Especially for those with Iphones and PDAs.

 

By the way, renovation on YaYa almost done. May open before Saturday 5 June.

You can generally adjust the power output from your router, so also set that to a level that doesn't go much beyond your bar. Maybe a little experimenting will be required with this,
