When you open it, you will quickly note this is just 1 of a big family of Tha-promoting websites run by R.Barrow, based in Pak Nam, a BKK-suburban town. There are also various forums and a quite good Thai-language learning tool.

The only minor negative is that info on how to reach most of the promoted places is rather lacking-except for the'' rentacar'' or taxi-options.

Do a quiz with your BKK-based BF and check which of these places he himself has ever seen or even knows of...

I found this thread while doing a search for overnight or getaway trips as a break for friends (and myself) away from Bangkok. A while back a friend took me to Amphawa for a few days, and it was such a refreshing break from not only the hustle and bustle (and just plain "hustling") of the city that I give him free reign to plan another such trip on my next visit.

 

Amphawa is about 2 hours outside of Bangkok by car, so to not arrive back the same day more tired than you left I'd suggest staying overnight. Besides, their floating market runs through the evening, and is pleasantly free of too many other Westerners, giving you more of a chance to see something a tad more truly Thai. The Thai themselves go there for getaways, if that gives you a hint.

SEAFOOD AT NONTHABURI...My Thai bf loves seafood so when we are in BKK and have a lazy Saturday or Sunday afternoon, we take the skytrain to Thaksin station, hop on a local Chao Phraya ferry to get to the city stop of Nonthaburi. It is about a 50 minuteboat ride since the ferry stops about ???6 different places along the way, but as we all know, the activity and sights along the river is always interesting. The local ferry ride is only ???40 baht. Note: When standing in line for the ferry to arrive at the Thaksin gate, you want to be in the front of the line so you can rush to get a seat and not have to stand during the first 5 stops -thins out after passing the Grand Palace stop.)

 

When arriving at the ferry stop, you turn right from the station and walk parallel with the river, towards the bright colored Chinese temple in the distance. On your left side of the soi will be a beautiful (in my opinion) turn of the century wooden structure that is a school and museum. The local seafood restaurant(floating on the shore of the river) will be on the right side before entering the Chinese temple.

 

The seafood is fresh/ inexpensive/ large bottles of cold beer. We always order a lot...crab/ fish/ shrimp/ chicken with cashew nut/spring rolls... along with a couple bottles of beer and the bill is under 900 baht. In the afternoon the place is not busy ( I imagine at night it is but the ferry doesn't run then.) Great lazy, relaxing afternoon there. ONe could take a speed boat taxi back to save time.

 

 

Though the city is close to Bangkok,is has a "small city charm" to it. You can walk around and take in the sights of the place also.
