This week our speaker will be Tim Swanson,

Chief of American Citizens Services (ACS) from the US Embassy in Bangkok.

His subjects this Sunday will include the importance of having Wills in Thailand and how the Consulate treats them.

He will explain how the US Embassy assists US Citizens in Thailand and how they process both Immigrant and Non-Immigrant Visas and the difference between them.

Although much of the information will pertain to US citizens living in Thailand, those not from the USA will find it interesting to compare the services his unit provides to that provided by their own Embassies.

Tim grew up in Cheyenne, Wyoming, later moving to Chicago, Illinois then Phoenix, Arizona. He is married with two children, now 19 & 14 years old. Tim was a Peace Corp volunteer in the Central Philippines for two years in the late eighties. He joined the US Foreign Service in 1998 and rapidly rose through the ranks of management. Tim has studied the Thai language and speaks some Vietnamese, Tagalog, Korean and Mandarin. His previous postings include Seoul, Korea, Hanoi, Vietnam, New Delhi, India, and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon).

He says, "The Foreign Service has never proved boring and offers the challenge of living in countries throughout the world." Tim was appointed the Chief of the Bangkok ACS this year. He has fascinating stories to tell, having traveled throughout Asia. The question and answer session following his talk should be interesting.

Fellow member Gary Hacker who is a US Embassy Warden for Pattaya suggests that attendees keep their questions positive and enlightening and not voice long personal problems or grievances.

BREAKFAST BUFFET AVAILABLE A buffet breakfast is available from 9:30 am to 11:00am with coffee service starting at 9:00am. The program begins at 10:30 am and concludes around noon. Remember to obtain your coffee or tea refills before the pots are removed at 11:00 am.
