February 1, 201115 yr Of Japan's many Festivals, the Kanamara Matsuri (Festival of the Steel Phallus) must be kind of unique. This honours man's endowment in a way that cannot even be portrayed in official Japanese books and magazines. Might such a Festival be of interest to the TAT in attracting more visitors in parts of Bangkok and Pattaya, I wonder? Maybe viagra or cialis could be the main sponsor Don't you just dig those iced lollipops? Or how about adding a Penis Park to the attractions as they have in South Korea (just found this vdo after posting the Japanese one)? This is totally legit!
February 1, 201115 yr We already have in Bangkok - the Penis Shrine (Chao Mae Tuptim Shrine) in Nai Lert Park next to the hotel of the same name (used to be the Hilton Hotel), just before the klong in Withayu before Phetburi intersection bkkguy
February 1, 201115 yr I am in that part of town about once a week - and I have never been to the Shrine! I see from the internet that the Nai Lert Swissotel Hotel does not like tourists traipsing through its lobby, and so access is really only from the soi at the back. I'll try and take some photos for posting next week.
February 1, 201115 yr Don't you just dig those iced lollipops? For those that do, the condom shop underneath Lucky Plaza in Singapore (remember Vincent's Bar?) sells penis shaped ice cube moulds in 2 sizes

Many steel phallus tenting out the KD shorts. One of my favorite sights....
February 2, 201115 yr If i remember well, this festival Khun FH muses on, is held in Kawasaki. The young boys dream....... There are also (or maybe that is yet another Yipun festival) crowds of Japanese men, only clad in a fundoshi (a kind of loincloth) but among which is one man fully naked- and if you can touch him, good luck for bext year is assured. Right now while I write this Chinese nw yr seems to have started with big fireworks going off in the soi.
February 2, 201115 yr I see from the internet that the Nai Lert Swissotel Hotel does not like tourists traipsing through its lobby, I went there about 6 months ago without any trouble. Walk in the front entrance of the hotel, and straight through the lobby area to the back, where there is a glass wall. Walk down a few steps and through a door in the glas wall, into which leads you into the restaurant. Walk through the restaurant, and out into the swimming pool area. Follow the path around the pool to the right until you come to a small door through to a parking/utility area. Keep on going through this until you come to the shrine. I walked past several staff - a greeter outside the restaurant and the guy on the desk just inside it who allocates tables - I just ignored them and they didn't bother me. I guess they thought I was a guest, going to the pool area. Here are a few pics I took:

About 10 years ago when I was still fascinated with japan, I was a fan of the japanese forums. Not only were there links to wierd ceremonies which involved getting naked and diving into chilly waters, but included processions through the streets clad only in fudoshi and my favourite included diving nude from bridges in the city. Not sure if it was Tokyo. There seemed to be religious festivals as well as fertility. Unfortunately youtube was unknown to me then. I will not have much time to search youtube, but fundoshi or japanese fertility might get some interesting clips we could enjoy.
