while I don't necessarily disagree with the basic concept, surely there are more polite ways to say "please respect our rules and we will respect your posts"

 

I wonder if he puts the same notice on his front door and treats his house guests with the same arrogance - actually with an attitude like that he probably does not have many house guests, or forum participants!

A board owner/moderator has the means to make any rules that he needs or wishes and enforce them.

 

Contributors and readers can visit his site or not as they wish.

 

We have seen several sites which are no longer with us. Some offered total freedom of speech, some moderated judiciously and some ran a very tight policy.

 

I think that the only one which stands a chance of longevity and popularity takes the middle way of judicious moderation.

 

There are other factors which effect Gay Thailand boards, Thai Law, Thai censorship and the amount of time and effort that moderators have to spend.

Let's not confuse the concepts of power with rights. The internet is Dodge City, where owners of websites have the power to do anything they please. That does not give them the right to run their sites in an arbitrary or capricious way, treating invited guests in violation of all basic rules of civil behavior, especially in vioilation of their own posted rules.

 

The fact that the internet world is filled with virtual autocrats who think they can do what they please within their own site, does not imply in any way that their actions have any element of being "right." What amazes me is that there are some folks who seem to delight in the concept that the internet owner can do no wrong.

I can only imagine you must be new to the cyberworld of forums, if you think you have

a right to know who other posters are.. You display your ignorance and your feeble

attempt to attack two posters in one post is pathetic..The whole point of posters using

handles in that this is an anonymous forum..Funny, you could use your real name and

not your handle and wouldn't everyone have the right to know who you are but you choose

not to..I couldn't care less what your name is and we would have no way of knowing if it

was a lie or not..
