Now that the pagoda has closed, are there any decent places to eat in jomtiem?

If you are looking for top quality, high end restaurants along Jomtien Beach Road, I don't know of any. The closest you'll find in that area are in Jomtien Complex. I don't know if any there would meet your requirements and I don't think many people would call them top quality high end, but the most popular ones are the Caf

I didn't include those because most people consider Jomtien to begin once you get past the Thepprasit Road intersection. Of course, those are very good restaurants. In that area there is also Indian by Nature and the News Cafe, also popular and good.

 

Also, despite the fact there is no ambiance at all, if you like fish & chips, in the Jomtien area Simon's is hard to beat.

 

If you like Thai food, right next door to the Ritz there is a Thai restaurant called Orange. More and more people are discovering it and many are giving it very high marks.

 

Another one, on Soi 4, Jomtien Beach Road, there is a hole-in-the-wall restaurant called Canary Bay. It's French-Alsace. The food is very good there and incredibly inexpensive.

I tried out Orange on my last visit (in Jan) and the food was good. Nothing that I would go out of my way to visit again, but perfectly fine.

 

I also had dinner one night at Chok Dee (sp?), which is in the small soi in the area "behind" Bondi. I thought the food was a bit better there. Some of the wait staff work during the day at rainbow beach stall...nice restaurant with air conditioned section as well.

As others have noted there are a wealth of restaurants in the Jom Tien area and if you willing to walk a little or take a short baht bus ride there are more places likes Mike's Mexican, Cafe de Amis, Mata Hari, Manhattan's, Magg's (on Thepprasit),etc.

 

Years ago, when I used to stay in Boyztown it was always a challenge to find acceptable dining accommodation in that area. There was the Amour (over-priced and now closed) and Cafe De New Orleans (so-so), Ambiance Coffee-shop (ok for breakfast). There was a restaurant called the Paradise opposite the Royal Garden that was popular with my friends but that closed years ago. I suppose one could jump on a sawng taeo and go to Central Festival mall with all it's chain restaurants or schlep over to the Tukcom-Day/Nite area.

 

So finding good food in the Jom Tien is no problem.

There are so many good restaurants in the Jomtien area it's easy to forget to mention one or two. A staple for many locals is Antz - on the bottom floor of Jomtien Complex Condotel Certanly not high end, but filling and inexpensive. Shenanigans on Thappyra and attached to the Condotel also offers some great daily special at more than reasonable prices. Try the carvery on the weekends. There are several others, but I thought I'd fill in the list. You won't go hungry in Jomtien no matter what your budget is.
