OUT in Thailand has investigated this story after a complaint against the Barbican was made by one of our readers.

OUT iT, serving the gay community and getting results!

Reading the comments, it does seem that one member of the staff went way beyond the bounds of acceptable behaviour towards any patron, let alone a group of regulars. I have dined with several gay friends at the Barbican a few times and have always had smiling service. The comments surely can not have been made by a Thai employee?

The Barbican is an English-type bar/restaurant in Soi Thaniya (the one with many Japanese establishments running between Silom and Suriwong). I see in OUT that the management has apologised and reconfirmed that all patrons, gay and straight. are welcome.

The Barbican Management very much regret the way a recent communication was received by a group of loyal gay customers and would like to take this opportunity to publically apologise for any misunderstandings caused. The Barbican is for people from any community, our customers like the fact the Barbican is a mix of many different kinds of people - a good

balance of the sexes, locals and tourists, Asians and westerners - gay and straight, all are very welcome.

If I was one of those regulars, I'd probably not wish to return. But the apology does seem sincere.

The way the apology was worded, I should think that the incident really did happen.
