June 25, 201115 yr New York State Senate just passed the bill that will allow same sex partners to marry with full right and benefits! Congrats!
June 25, 201115 yr I've been watching this on Anderson Cooper's show. Since senators from both parties voted in favour of the bill, is it therefore unlikely the vote can be appealed by anyone?

A great thing. However, remember California. I do not know if NY has State Initiatives, but if they do, then the public can overturn the results. Our dear Friends, The Mormans, are more then willing to finance a repeal.

June 25, 201115 yr A great thing. However, remember California. I do not know if NY has State Initiatives, but if they do, then the public can overturn the results. Our dear Friends, The Mormans, are more then willing to finance a repeal. The laws in NY make it very difficult for voters to repeal laws once passed by the state legislature. It can be overturned but only via a constitutional convention - a lengthly are arduous process - not through a voter initiative as in California. Also there is no residency requirement in the NY law - any gay couple can now go to NY to get married and honeymoon at Niagara Falls or at a Broadway musical.
