One of my friends recently went in to Bangkok/Pattaya Hospital for a proceedure and was diagnosed with a cyst in her back which is giving pressure towards her heart.

 

The official diagnosis was anterior superior homogenous hypovascular mediastinal mass. With a possibility of teratoma. Does anyone have any information or experience regarding this?

 

Also, she asked for her xrays and ct scan on disk and it was given. However, the files are unable to be opened on my pc. Does anyone know what picture files with an extention of CHS, JPN, BPL or DLL is?

 

I know this kind of doesn't relate to Gay Thailand, except for the fact that I am gay and this is happening in Thailand. I know there is a welath of information out there and any/all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

After you download the disk to your computer, go to documents (or where ever you downloaded it to), right click the file and rename it to scan.jpg

 

You should be able to open it then. I am not a computer geek, but that usually works for me.

 

As far as the medical...I googled it, but made no sense to me.

It doesn't seem to me that there is anything to suggest. She went to Bangkok-Pattaya hospital and this was diagnosed. Correct? What did the doctor say about it and what did the doctor advise doing about it? That's the advice I'd be seeking out.

 

Now, maybe I'm misunderstanding and that's what you're already doing. Are you posting because what you want from us is merely advice concerning how to open the pictures? If that's what you're looking for, I've never heard of any of those extensions other than the dll extention, which would have nothing to do with photos. Dll usually means Dynamic Link Library, and has to do with running programs, and nothing at all to do with photos.

 

Ask the hospital what program they use to open those if Namjai's suggestion won't work. If that fails, then go to Tuk Com and see if any of the software shops have a program that will open them.

 

If you get them to open, can I have an 8x10 glossy?

That's not a diagnosis. It is a description of the location and character of a tumor/growth seen in the chest. A differential diagnosis of this would include a teratoma and many other things that could be benign or malignant. Further work up with other tests would be needed before surgery. And a definitive diagnosis may not come until a biopsy is obtained and analyzed.

This means she should see a doctor who is a chest specialist to direct further care.

With some of these files there can be a lot of additional embedded information for example; generally they are not designed for reading by the sorts of standard image reading programmes you find on your home pc.

Thanks to everyone for the great information. Actually, the main point of this post was to find out what the extensions were -- however, the secondary question was if anyone knew of this medical diagnosis or had personal experience with it. The problem here is that the woman had trouble communicating with the hosiptal and therefore couldn't fully understand all the jargon. In addition, she just wanted to make sure she had what she needed on the disk for her doctors back home. The fact that she couldn't open it up worried her. That's all.

I was treated at Bangkok-Pattaya Hospital while I was there on my trip. I had food poisoning. They kept me overnight with an IV stuck in me. I found the care to be excellent and cheap. Communicating with the doctor was no problem but some of the nurses were a little difficult to understand.

Teratoma is part of DD for the anterior medistineal mass .. the CT features for Teratoma are rather obvious ...the suitability for surgery will depends on the size, location and +/- involvment with the surronding structures ....u need to see a thoracic surgean for that ... Good luck
