Just curious to see where the majority of members live or spend most of their time. I have really enjoyed my time in Bangkok but it is coming to an end next month and I'm headed back to USA and South America. I know I'll return again soon but have not yet decided on my next long stay destination in Thailand. Where do you stay? Why?

Maybe you should have allowed us to select more than one? Most of my recent trips have started with 2-3 days in Bangkok, followed by a week or so in the Isaan (or Chiang Mai) then a few days in Pattaya. Total time usually 2-3 weeks. The Isaan part of the trip is timed to coincide with some particular festival.

So, my answer to your question is that if I were staying for a longer period I wouldn't base myself in any one of the places you list. I'd move around.

I generally start with a few days in Bangkok, travel further afield within SE Asia, then finish up with at least a week of proper relaxation in Pattaya.

I chose Isaan because that's where various friends, old and new, hail from.

 

Rather like Ceejay and Z I like to move around though. My preferred method is by car. Touring in Thailand, whether it be in Isarn, or up north, is a real pleasure.

 

Pattaya used to always get a look in, but less so these days. I'd book a hirecar and drive into Isaan.

 

I haven't given up on Bangkok! Now I have mellowed a bit I don't restrict myself to the fleshpots and intend to get to know the city better.

I do prefer Pattaya more and more. On each holiday, I stop in Bangkok (as this is where my holidays begin end end) for some days and go to Pattaya for some days.

 

Pattaya has a higher density of available boys than Bangkok, the prices (hotel, drinks) are cheaper, there is less felt air pollution (I have no numbers and no health problems, but the sheer number of cars, people and cooking with open fire in Bangkok must create air pollution). Bangkok has a larger choice of day time activities, but there is enough to see around Pattaya as well.

 

Samui (visited once) and Chiang Mai (visited once) dont't have enough choice of boys in bar (I'm very picky), but with a boyfriend it would be fine.

as a-often changed-general rule I spend the cold wimtermonthes in LOS, and after having travelled any of Thailands 77 provinces (more now) and seen about all of it) I have settled on Bangkok big city for most of that time, with the odd trip outside.

Partly becse I am a cityfriend and do not like the beach at all, partly becse of the utter boring surroundings in rural Isan and partly becse best friend of now also happens to live in some part of BKK. Have been to Pattaya many times, but gave up some 8=-9 yrs ago by now-plain utter boring with nothing to do daytime there. Plus a much higher farang-cheating attitude at many places as in BKK.
