The anatomy lesson of Dr.Nicholas Tulp

The painting is by Rembrandt and was comissioned by the Amsterdam Guuild of Surgeons. There are several copies of The Anatomy Lesson. The original is housed in a Museum in The Hague. A second copy is in the University of Edinburgh Fine Art Collection.

Reminds me of a similar style of painting, The Gross Clinic, by Thomas Eakings now housed in The Philadelphia Museum of Arts. While I worked at Jefferson Medical University this painting was displayed on a staircase and was quite a sight at 8 ft x 6 ft.
