I will give Trump credit for this much.  No boots on the ground.  Yet.

I checked and the equivalent number when the Iraq invasion started was 70 % approval among Americans.  That is higher than I recalled, since I was in the opposition.    And before the invasion W. had way less than 70 % support for the proposed invasion.  But once it started, and seemingly was successful, a lot of people rallied around him.   That was back when some people I knew kind of thought I was kind of un-American for not rallying around the flag.

No such thing now.  My guess is the 1 in 3 who support Trump on this are the same crew that support him still on wrecking the Capitol to save his ass when he lost in 2020.  @lookin correctly calls them authoritarian followers.  They have rallied hard around Trump.

As Joe Klein, one of my favorite moderate writers, said in a new article, "What Could Possibly Go Wrong?"

I think 33 % is probably as good as it gets for Trump.  Lots can and may go wrong.  And even his supporters know it.
