Guest fountainhall Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 There is a prominent ad in today’s The Nation advertising cheap flights on Cambodia Angkor Air from BKK to Siem Reap in January and BKK to Phnom Penh in February. Round Trip price on Cambodian Angkor Air is Bt. 3,000 + taxes etc. For these routes, that is a great price! Since the ad gave no website, I ran a check on some search engines. Farecompare.com and expedia.co.th have the cheapest flights at $306 total on Bangkok Air. Vayama.com has a total price of $184. This is about the same as the price in the ad. Yet the flight is listed as Bravo Air Congo using an Airbus A321 aircraft! The breakdown is $137.37 for the return airfare and $48.08 in taxes. Flight K6 721 Depart 19-Feb-13 (Tue) 02:20p Bangkok (BKK) Arrive 19-Feb-13 (Tue) 03:25p Phnom Penh (PNH) Flight Time 01hr 05min | Economy Airbus Industrie A321 Flight K6 720 Depart 22-Feb-13 (Fri) 12:15p Phnom Penh (PNH) Arrive 22-Feb-13 (Fri) 01:20p Bangkok (BKK) Flight Time 01hr 05min | Economy Airbus Industrie A321 But who is Bravo Air Congo? A google search shows it based in the People’s Republic of Congo – and yes, it does use the IATA code K6. Why would they be flying the BKK/PNH and BKK/REP routes? So I checked again and found Cambodia Angkor Air does indeed have a website, flights are indeed available on the above dates and the price is indeed Bt. 3,000 return + Bt1,470 tax. And the flight details are exactly as above. According to wikipedia, Cambodia Angkor Air has been flying since July 2009. It operates 5 A321s and 2 ATR-72 500 aircraft. The aircraft are leased from Vietnam Airlines and have an average age of just 1 year. Where Bravo Air Congo comes into the picture beats me. There are still some flights BKK/Siem Reap available at this price in January. Flights to both destinations can be booked at http://www.cambodiaangkorair.com/en/home.aspx Quote

Guest Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 To fly Air Asia to Phnom Penh on the same dates is 5300 baht. They might add on a little for luggage. From a safety perspective, I would choose Air Asia, just because of the track record. Quote
