If you are ever down by the river, think about this charming, small Thai restaurant tucked into a small soi parallel to Charoenkrung Road.

 

Went for dinner last night with two friends who had had a recommendation from another friend.  Simply but nicely decorated with tables for about 36 diners (last night there were only around 10), the restaurant also runs its own cooking school. It is advertised as serving "hot Thai cuisine" but they will tailor the degree of spiciness exactly to your taste.

 

Service was friendly and very efficient. It was suggested we try their corn cakes, which were delicious. We also had scallops with peppercorns, some satay, excellent spring rolls, a tofu dish packed full of flavour and some vegetables. Not an extensive meal and the portions are about medium size, but every dish was beautifully cooked and tasty. Bill for three with 2 beers and several small bottles of water was just over Bt. 1,600.

 

It's even better if you are there around lunchtime, for they have a special Bt. 80 lunch menu  (since no-one is taking any action to solve the EIGHTY icon problem many weeks after it was first pointed out, I am just leaving it in!)

 

To get to the restaurant, you don't need to suffer the dreadful traffic in that part of town. Take the Skytrain to Saphan Taksin and then the Mandarin Oriental's shuttle boat. From the hotel it's less than 5 minutes walk.

 

Note: the map on the website makes it look as though the restaurant is on Charoenkrung. It's in the soi immediately behind.
