One of the things to do in the daytime in Bangkok is to go to the mall. There are several malls to go to but we always enjoy our time in Siam Paragon.

 

 

 

Siam Paragon is HUGE! All size queens should love this mall. It has just about everything you could possible want.

 

 

 

In Thailand, when kids in high school get out of school, many head to the malls. Also, this mall is right next to several Universities and several go there to study, meet friends and just hang out in a cool place.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

First, in order to get to the mall you can take public transportation or taxis. There are good things and bad things about both. For the Skytrain, it is very easy to get around anywhere that there is a skyway stop. Signs are in English and easy to read and understand. Once you buy you ticket once, you will find it a breeze the rest of the time.

 

 

 

 

 

 

When you take a taxi in Bangkok during the day, be prepared for traffic. It is a true PITA to get around the city at times but that also depends on where you travel and if you know the times of the day the main traffic hits.

 

 

Of course, you can always take a motorcycle taxi which is always ready to get you there faster and get out in front of the traffic.

 

 

Even the animals are often excited to get to the mall.

 

 

Once at Siam Paragon, you have many choices of things to do. There is a massive food court.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I love the giant aquariums that you can beside.

 

 

There are tons of great stores.

 

 

There are places to view and buy luxury cars.

 

 

 

 

 

There is a great bookstore that has English books but also every other language.

 

 

There is a massive IMax Movie Theater with seats that are amazing and that have regular theaters and VIP theaters as well as IMax.

 

 

 

 

Naturally, there is also just people watching.

Probably afraid to take any photos of Hot boys , worried about you straying off the reservation so to speak.  LOL

That was a great post, Michael! I think candid shots of folks in public (as long as folks aren't doing something immoral or illegal and aren't being featured on a porn-based site) show the real flavor of a place while traveling.

 

I enjoy seeing a familiar place through different eyes, and this filled the bill (for me, anyway). When I'm travelling I'm not much a mall shopper, per se - there are malls a-plenty within a short drive of where I live in the U.S. - but I walk around in them to people watch, eat, catch a movie or browse a book store. The casual flavor of people going about their ordinary business in your photo assortment made it interesting. Certainly plenty of young men in the assortment, and I'd notice one of them before I'd note a Versace storefront, too! 

I'm no great fan of malls but appreciate their role in modern city life. You did a fantastic job capturing the 'heart and soul' of Siam Paragon. You have quite an 'eye'.

If memory serves right, on the floor below the cinema, i.e. the same floor where you buy the tickets, there is a shop (name something with "Candy") where they make sweets, with pictures or text in it. Interesting to watch.

I think Garrison nailed it right. Michael really did capture the heart and soul of Siam paragon through his photos and provided a well observed commentary on the culture of malls for Thais. I like it alot.  Pls continue?
