Malaysia Border

Featured Replies

I have my suspicion there's more to this than that article lets on.

Be that as it may, it piqued my interest in this Malaysian province/state.

Here is a link to a useful short canter through Kelantan.

An interesting area methinks. Anyone reading this been?

yes have been, several times, mostly KB=Kota Baru, last time nov.11-with all the floods in TH. Monopoly of that islamic party has ended. IN the big market there are some signs showing the EXchange rates for Morocco Dirham, Jordan Dinar and some more Arab valuta-but they were not updated since that party lost. Not that I noted any Arab visitor. The small stream of western bekpekkers mainly stopover now for a trip to those Perhentian islands. (=perhenti= watch out!)

KB did have a charming small town atmosfere and a fabulous nightmarket, both of which have been eraded by modernisation. Got proposed by a trainconductor one to meet after his shift ended. Illegal cheap Thai Music cassettes/VDO etc. at the night market. A lot of a skind of spoken Thai dialect can be heard. It WAS part of TH for some time.

I have no interest in visiting this area.

Ditto.  Unless and until some peace arrangement is made (which likely won't happen in my lifetime), I'll go nowhere near the place.

Perhentian islands. (=perhenti= watch out!)

Sorry but your translation is wrong.

"perhentian" = stop over (as in breaking a long journey)

"perhATIAN" = to notice or 'be aware'

And I wouldn't bother to visit that particular part of my country either, in case anyone wants to know.
