Hopefully it will help those guys deciding to go to Brazil for the first time or help answer some questions. If I miss anything, let me know and I will be happy to answer those questions! Since I first went to Rio in October of 2001, I have made over 40 trips there and found that the sauna/rentboy scene has not really changed with the exception of, in 2001 there were two saunas, Rogers and Club 117 and now there are Five. Pointe 202, Club 117, Meo Mundo, Spazio18, and Galleria which was formally Spa73. This flucuates, it has been as high as 7, with several going in and out of business several times. The two mainstays are Pointe 202 in Copacabana(R. Siquerio Campos 202) and Club 117 in Gloria( R. Candido Mendes 117). I should mention for those who haven't been to Brazil, most major cities in Brazil will have at least one rent boy sauna(Recife, Bela Horzonte, Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Sao Paulo, etc.) They all operate the same, you walk in and at the reception desk you get a wrist band with your locker key on it. You can change into a towel or stay in your street clothes, whatever your comfortable doing. All services, rooms/drinks/food are charged to that number and you pay when you leave. They all take MC or Visa. The sauna makes nothing off the guys nor can they legally take a "cut". They make their money off entrance fees/room rental/drinks and food. I don't want to get into a long discussion about $ but basically the going rate is $50.R(roughly $22. U.S today)for an hour. The guys are very good at getting Americans in particular to pay more, $70 - 100. R. But the competition is strong and I have found very few among the many guys I have been with that will turn down $50R. As a side note, I usually have one of them back to the hotel to sleep over which usually means from 10:00 pm leave the sauna to somewhere 10:00 a.m. to noon the next day and the standard is $150.R or roughly $66. U.S., this also includes dinner because we go out to eat as most Brazilians do, late, after we leave the sauna. Most of the guys will be in the bar area, but all the saunas have a video room as well where guys will be J/O to usually straight videos showing off what they have hoping to entice you. When you sit down in the bar area, they will be watching for the slightest look so they can come over and sit with you. After all this time I still know little Portuguese, but as long as you have a few key words you will do fine. Quanto - How much Activo - Top Passivo - Bottom Bom Beijos? - Good Kisser? :-) My advise to first time visitors, walk in and order a drink and take 15 mins or so to take it all in, do not go with the first guy that approaches you(many of us have made that mistake!) those guys typically spot the newbies and grab them up as they are one time wonders! they are not that good, don't do that much and know they can get the max $ for the least effort from new guys! Some guys are more pushy, don't feel intimidated, if someone comes up and he's not your time, just say "nao obrigado" they won't be offended, odds are they will be back around in 1/2 hour asking you again! You will find a mix of body types at the saunas, with some having more of one type than the other. Pointe and 117 have more body builder types, maybe 25 to 40% of the guys, Meo Mundo had mostly "natural" type bodies the lean swimmer look. But on any given night the mix can change. Certain nights are very busy depending on the venue, i.e. free cabin night, bingo boy, sex show, free entrance, etc. On Tues and Thurs 117 seems to be packed, I was there two weeks ago and there were long waits for cabins and I would estimate somewhere around 35+ guys working, Meo Mundo has "toweless nights" when the working guys are walking around naked on Mon/Weds/Sat. nights so they are busier than. Two weeks ago on Monday night, my flight home was at 10:00 pm so I decided to walk over to Pointe at 5:00 figuring there might be a few guys there and it would be more fun sitting there than in the lobby of the hotel since I had to check out. There were about 15 guys there at 5:00 on a Monday! including to my surprise one of my all time favorite guys who I thought was still living in Europe! Gentlemen, let me say that if you have any questions at all about Rio and the sauna scene, Tomcal is the man to ask. He is a virtual Gay Chamber of Commerce for Rio.. He, and his little Blackberry, were the main reasons I decided to make the trip down south this past November. Now I can't wait until I am able to go again. My only regret about my trip is that I did not do enough things other than the saunas.. Next time I will do more of the tourist/cultural things in addition to the all you can eat sexual buffet.. Have not been to a few of the ones you mentioned but will give them a try on my next Rio visit which is not too far in the future. In Sao Paulo this week, most of the guys were asking 60-70 from Americans. They were all willing to go for less but one guy from Rio wanted 100 and no less. Meo Mundo is in a very old facility downtown and the rooms are "basic", no bathroom or shower attached, you have to walk down the hall afterwards to shower.(However they have some very hot guys, my current favorite is there, and they have a good atmosphere in the bar) However it's amazing how you can forget about certain ammenities when you have a really hot guy taking you to a room! My last trip several weeks ago the A/C wasn't working in the rooms at Meo Mundo and it was unbearable, so we just went to the bar area and made arrangements to meet the guys we liked back at our hotel. Pointe202 in Rio and LaGoa sauna in Sao Paulo(Rua Borges Lagoa, 287), offer different room rates, basic cabin w/o air on a double bed no shower, bigger room with larger bed, and suites with queen size beds showers/bathroom , a/c and TV playing porn, mirrored walls and/or ceiling. Prices range from $25R to 45R. Now on to some of the "good stuff"! You are in the sauna and you see a guy you had a great time with last night and you see another guy you had a great time with the night before that, so you decide "why not do a 3 way with two guys you know are both really great!?" Big mistake! and I made it more than once as I am a slow learner! What a guy will do with you alone and what he will do in front of another guy are very different! Many don't want their friends to know that they get fucked or that they suck dick! So if you have your heart set on a 3way or more....ask the first guy who he wants for a 3 way. they will pick out a friend that knows what they do so they won't be embarassed or they will pick out a guy they want to be fucked by! If the one they recommend doesn't appeal to you, ask them for a second or third choice. This will usually guarantee you will have a good time. but never pick out two random guys that appeal to you but don't know each other, you will be guaranteed not to have fun, they will both be like statues in the room! There are two questions I ask when I meet a new guy in the sauna that I am interested in. 1) "Bom Beijos?" are you a good kisser? and almost 100% of the time they will immediately on the spot prove to you that they are! one of the things that the boys are not embarassed about is kissing someone in front of their friends! What's even more fun is when you have two or three sitting at your table vying for your attention and you tell them who ever is the best kisser your going up with!! lol they really try to win! I usually end up going with all of them! The second question I ask is "Activo or Passivo?" Top or bottom? Now this also is somewhat deceiving. In my experience, spanning quite a few guys in the saunas, 90% will say, especially if other guys are standing around, that they are Activo! but when you get them up in a cabin and the door shuts....90% of them will go "ok, passivo" and than put their finger to their lips to indicate you can't tell their friends! LOL Over the years, I've learned that the boys talk as much as we all do, and they not only know what each other does, but they know about all of us, after your first night with a guy in a sauna the next night you will be approached by guys that are his friends and when you get in a room find them doing some things that are your "hot" botton and you realize they have been tipped off! :-) You pay the guy after you finish, usually they will follow you down to the locker room, you get a $50.R bill out of your locker and give him the bill, and while everyone knows what's going on, it's interesting that everyone is discreat about this, usually the guy shakes your hand and you slip the folded up bill into his, just is the customary way of doing it. I always than ask if they would like a drink, I don't think I have ever had a sauna guy order a alcololic beverage, they will usually order a fruit juice or red bull, they will than sit with you for a few minutes before they are off again looking for the next customer(they "recharge" pretty fast, since most are between 19 and 23!) One situation that I see happen over and over again, you met a guy your first night, had a great time, you go back the second night and he immediately spots you and sits down and is all excited about seeing you again. You really want to try a new guy but feel awkard about telling the guy No since he is now hanging on you and positive you are going to be with him again. Don't feel embarassed to say "Nao Obrigado" No Thanks, you are not going to hurt their feelings! trust me on this, They will smile and immdediately start looking for the next customer. I have had several friends that stayed with the same guy for 3 or 4 nights in a row, or else avoided going back to that sauna so that they wouldn't have to feel uncomfortable by telling the guy they wanted to be with someone new! They guys know how to play the game and they know that if they have a good client they are going to latch on to him every night! At least 90% of the guys you have sex with in the sauna will say they are straight! almost all of them have either wives or girlfriends and kids. Once you have been with a particular guy more then a couple times more than likely he will show you pics of his girlfriend or of this kid(s). Often the name they have tatooed somewhere on their body is that of their daughter. Yet they Kiss, suck dick, rim and get fucked and usually really well. At first I didn't believe it, and thought it was just a Macho line of b.s., but over the years I have been invited back to their homes, gone to parties and ran into them during the day and during the course of all these things have been introduced to their wives and/or girlfriends! One of the other things I found both interesting and to me a little surprising at first is the number of relatives that work at the suana. Brothers, cousins, uncle/nephew, etc. Currently their are two sets of identical twins and two sets of brothers working at the saunas in Rio. I did find out that what they tell their friends and girlfriends what they do in bed with another guy is not accurate, they downplay what they do and most don't admit to being a bottom. If you are in the sauna and you ask the guy what he does before you take him up to a room, make sure you ask him out of earshot of other guys, most will whisper to you but do not want their buddies to hear! I don't recommend this for first time visitors but two of the hottest guys I have met in Rio, I met randomly while walking down the blvd. I was walking back from the beach and their was this incredibly hot guy standing waiting for the light to change. He looked at me and I said Bom Dia, and he replied and than looked again at me and said "Americano" and I said yes and than apologized for me poor Portuguese. We talked for about a min and than I said "possbily programma"? and he looked at me for what seemed like a minute but was probably more like 5 seconds and shrugged his shoulders and said Ok. We went back to the apartment and had a great time and I saw him at least a 1/2 dozen more times after that. He worked at one of the stores along Copacabana blvd. The same thing happened with another guy last year. Also descretion is important and handholding or kissing in public, outside of the sauna, it does not happen. One guy I see when I go down there is a policeman, who I originally met in Sao Paulo about 3 years ago. Now he works as a Rio cop. He will come to the hotel and we meet in the lobby and shake hands and appear more like two businessmen talking. Even in the elevator when it's just the two of us, it's very formal. But once we are in the room and the door is shut, he's a sexual animal! lol This guy is married, 26 yr, and has three kids. but in bed he is great at everything. Last night I went to Meo Mundo as there was a big party for the owner Acyr who had returned yesterday from a month long trip to Calif. there were about 30+ boys working and about 30 local Brazilerios, plus a drag queen show with 6 drag queens. My two guys from the first part of this story were there, the one who looks like he could be a top fashion model anywhere in the world was the featured stripper, and we couldn't leave until his act which comes on 1/2 thru the drag queen show. We got up at 10:30 and than everyone just layed around talking and they just left at 1:30 p.m. and are making plans for tonight! as it is my last night, I am leaving for Porto Alegre tomorrow for the weekend. I am afraid I won't make the flight if I do one more night with those guys! There is more to tell but I need to go strap on a oxygen tank! Townie and Expat, I will show you guys the photos and videos I took next time I see you guys at Numbers! the file is to big for me to upload on here. that's another thing about the Brazilian guys, they are not shy and love posing. I think I took somewhere around 50 pics, just this morning as we were laying around! *the restuarant is called Eclipse and for those of you who go to Rio, it's just around the corner from the gay disco "LeBoy". It's open 24 hrs, very nice, large restaurant with both indoor and outdoor dining and popular with the boys at midnight and also with the Girl hookers from the straight disco HELP which is just down the street also. It's in the very southern part of Brazil an hour by air from Buenos Aires and 2 hours from Rio. It has 2 saunas and several gay bars that have "rentboys". The desk clerk at the Atlantico hotel in Rio was joking with me, saying "Porto Alegre is not really Brazil!, they are all white/German/Italian and Polish there!" that is very true, the general populations looks more like you are in Orange County Cal. than Brazil. It was settled by those nationalities at the turn of the century and again after WWII. It's a ocean/river port city and the center of a large grain/cattle/farming area. One thing both saunas have in common is the floor to ceiling glassed in shower covers two walls of the bar area. The guys shower continuously showing off everything they have, drying off, walking around the bar area, back in the shower, until someone invites them back for a drink. The first sauna is Plataforma, (2765 Pernambuco, San Geraldo)it's a old but charming building and always has a good vibe! This past Saturday night it was packed. I had one of the guys I had met on a previous trip come over to the hotel in the afternoon so I was going to sit with my friends for awhile and talk when a blonde, green eyed, 21 yr old muscle hunk walked by our table and went into the shower! when he came out of the shower I immediately invited him to sit down for a drink, he was not only great in bed, but a really nice guy, when I got home today, there was a message from him waiting for me along with some photos! I am trying right now how to get back there in May! :-) The other sauna Mezzininu,(Sao Salvador 108) is a sauna that was built as a sauna from the ground up 2 years ago, it's a beautiful facility, 2 floors, with flat screen tv's in all the rooms, queen or king size beds, big bar and stage. Two drawbacks..1)not one taxi driver can find it on the first try! lol so I have a printed out map showing it's location, it's within about 3 blocks of a huge mall(ao Lado Bourbon) but they always struggle, but eventually find it! 2) it's such a big place that if there is less than 25 guys there it looks empty. Sunday nights they do a free dinner and it's packed. The owner Roy is a Brazilian, but speaks perfect English and really tries to help you pick out the best guys! There are 3 bars all with "rentboys" mixed in with regular young gay couples to varing degrees. the first Era Uma Vez, is now my least favorite! and I don't think it will last after being open 15 years!. they moved back to their Old location and it's just not working. I went on both Friday and Sunday nights and and stayed less than 5 mins. each time! VITRAUX (Rua da Conceição, 482 - Centro) it a modern nice bar/dance club like you would find in any city here in the U.S. first room has three pool tables and bar, 2nd room had a bar/tables and stage with drag queen shows, and two other rooms that are dance floors. This is the club the young local guys like to go to with their friends to dance. The third and my new favortie!! Cabaret Indescretus, (Rua Ernesto Alves, 169 Floresta). Why?? oh it could be the Naked waiters(who on other nights are availabe) or waiters only wearing a loose apron, the back/black room where you can take a guy you meet on the dance floor or bar. There is a upscale part of the city called "Moinhos de Vento", shops/restaurants/parks set along tree shaded streets in a great area. The Sheraton there is really nice and has always been my first choice when going there. Second choice is the hotel chain in the same area , the Mercure Manhatten and Mercure Beverly Hills. They are more like Embassy suites here in the U.S. with a living area, small kitchen area and bedroom. They generally run about $80+ U.S., The Sheraton is around $140. U.S., this one would be one of the higher end ones if it was in the U.S., very nice. They are about a 10 min or less cab ride from the saunas and bars previously mentioned and about 15 min. max from the airport Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
