Don't be hesitant to go alone Thai people are very friendly and polite ,Just make sure never to tell that’s your first time in Thailand to avoid overcharged prices and fees.

I really don't give a damm what others think too.There is no wrong to be with 20 yo boy just enjoy yourself and ignore what other thinks it's really no their damm business what you are doing. In general Thailand is one of the most gay freindly countries in the world and personally I never have had bad experience there beeing with a boy much younger than me.

The huge advantage with taking a local boy to travel with you is that he knows the culture and the local language so it's more easy for you to get by just ask the boy what is needed and he will sorte it out.You just have to find the right boy, I did it couple of times in the past and had great fun much more interesting then travelling alone in Thailand.I am not a butterfly by nature and if I find the boy I like I prefer to be a long term with him the problem is that sometimes the boy had grown expectations for more serious relationship and even marriage and taking them to my country and then the troubles begin ... then I needed to cool things up, lots of tears at the other side...

It's really depends on the boy if the chemistry between you two is good it can be wonderful experience but if not you will curse the moment you decided to take the boy to travel with you.

There are plenty of reasonable booking options in Silom area very good hotels with breakfast and swimming pool such as Furama and Le Siam both offering their better rooms well bellow $100 which I booked on my upcoming trip next week .For me booking high end rooms is a waste of money because I rarely stay in my room except for sleeping . Trying to impress boys seems silly to me because they only want to do their business get the fee and go , it doesn't really matter to them if it's in five stars hotel or backpackers guesthouse .

You are describing well the reason why I had never met the same LT boy again on my upcoming trips . Every boy I liked who stayed with me couple of days (and sometimes most of my vacation) I tried to stay in contact on a freindship basis turned to be a disappointment every single boy after couple of freindly messages start to demand money , endless requests for financial help and 'tragic' stories to back it up till I eventually loose my patient and cut of the contact with him. I have to remind myself every time that the lovely charming boy who stayed with me is actually a money boy and once the trip is over the deal with the boy is over too and it's better to forget him and move on with my life.
 

Overpaying is not guarantee for be better service in the contrary most of the times the sex workers will participate the overspender as foolish and naive and the service will be Bellow the normal standard. From my experience in Thailand overpaid is considered as weakness and not generousity by the locals.

Bangkok / Pattaya discussion is similar to twink/ hunks one or bars/ apps for that matter. Can be discussed to no end and no solution with supporters of either way trading arguments to no end.
My personal solution is to spend most of time  in Bangkok but make 2-7 days jump to Pattaya obligatory, usually in the middle of trip but for next time, whenever it will be I sternly ordered myself to try new approach - start in Pattaya and finish in Bangkok. 
As always my old advice ' go and try for yourself " stays as it's best way to build up a plausible opinion. I'm still grateful to our member who when I posted my not so thrilling impression of Pattaya after first jump there  commented ' give Pattaya a chance'.

The distance between the areas is about 20 minutes by baht buss I don't see any advantage in spending double costs for accommodation.
