The "not in control" thing is interesting. It turned out I was not control of the situation when I was robbed walking down the street last year, and likewise some years before when a guy suddenly turned his oncoming car in front of mine and caused a collision. At least the pilots of one's own plane and others in the airspace are trained professionals, and the elements such as weather and gravity are benign, not malevolent.
