Aprops of nothing-just thought I would expand on a comment I made in TO's "gayest painting ever"thread. I am helping to build a collection of books and art centering around Turn of the century English artists. These of course include the pre-raphealites,touch on the Victorians,and often run unto the Bloomsbury group.And also have influence.and are influenced by many othe countries-mostly France and Japan-and include many American based artist as well. What a bunch of queens! Some of them were out-and led very out lives.Many of them were pretty badly closeted.Some of them were prosocuted for their same sex inclinations.Many were forced to move abroad.And yes-there was the occassional Heterosexual man.some clung to the church. But even the closeted men of this circle were "Dandys"and many wrote in such purrple prose that their closets had glass panes. It is an interesting era,and I appriciate the opportunity to continue my education-but jeez-today I had to reserch "The Faerie Queen"-and I just had to laugh! Now back to the smut!

Wellllll as you know Lucky the "leather"scene bores me to tears.If it is strictly a leather event I will pass.All of those ribbon clerks and real estate agents running around in cowhide-major yawn. As to Jon Thomas-after the less than genteel inhospitatable welcome he received here I doubt he will be posting again.I hope he will,but I would be understanding if he didn't.Pity really-he might of actually had something to add to this board.

But everything is expensive-not just Foie Gras and Caviar! Booze is really expensive,and a party that I used to do(4 or5 years ago) for $200-$300 is now well over $500. And predictions of more inflation are now hitting the airwaves. BTW-if you want to read an excellent writer on keeping housekeeping/cooking cost down I HIGHLY recomend MFK Fisher.

And Angela Lansburry(oooooh and Rubert too!),,,,,, just a heads up that I will be visiting NYC March 20th to the 22nd for the Hookies at Splash. http://www.rentboy.com/awards/index.html And might pop in to The Black Party which is the next night. I am also looking forward to seeing Angela Lansburry and Ruppert Everett in Blithe Spirit. Friday night at Numbers Chris was not there.There was another cute guy and Moz the owner. I noticed quite a few folks would come in,notice Chris was not working,and either leave right away or just have one drink and then leave. So,,,,do you go to a particular bar because of one or more of the bartenders?Would you follow that bartender if he went to another establishment? I have a very good friend who is a bartender at an esatblishment that has fallen on very hard times.The crowd is less than lovely and I have told him I would not be visiting with him very often-and to not take it personally.That took a lot for me to do-but I just cannot go to the crummy bar any longer.

It was great to see so many Mermen show up for this. Brandon arrived solo-he was still recovering from Mardi Gras-and getting set to move to Las Vegas tommorow.But it was grand to chat with him-and we stayed late into the night after dinner. Now I am wondering if I am going to make a(yet another) monthly trip to Las Vegas each month should he decide that he wants to hold rentboy.com monthly dinners there-I wonder if there are any restaurants that would put up with us!

For Adam Smith-and any others interested,Anna Russell's Farewell concert has been saved on DVD available via amazon(I bought 3 copies for friends who have only heard her on recordings) for $23 and it has the 18 minute Ring cycle and the Gilbert and Sullivan monologue also. I am betting these are on Youtube also-I just cannot find it right now. I am seriously debating on abandoning my tix for Die Walkurie next month.I cannot convince any of my friends to go with me

Last night I went to see the LA Opera.s new production of Das Rheingold. Not only was it torturously bad it was also just under three hours with no breaks I guess that was nothing new-that is how it is written.The music was glorious and the singing was pretty good-but the new staging by Achim Freyer was so incredibly juvenile(while trying to pass as German expresisoinsm)that the audience laughed at several non funny parts.I was embarrased for the performers And trust me-if there had been an intermission they would have lost half of the house $200 to be tortured-and I did not even get off http://theguide.latimes.com/music/la-opera...rheingold-event

I cannot belive how cheap the prices are for REALLLLLLLY nice hotels in Phoenix are for these dates! The economy has really KO'd the resort business it would seem. And the airfares are pretty cheap also-only problem is most of the non-stops are on a carrier I choose not to fly But I plan on getting there one way or another. Lurker Speaks-are there any areas that are more "fun"than others?Are there any we should avoid?

I am going to go off into "tin foil hat"territory here I believe circumcission from the very start has been a way for authority figures and women to subjigate men. I also believe that some men are so traumatized by the torture inflicted upon them by this cruel and unnatural act that it leaves a permanant mental scar. Im teaming up with the Fabulous Brandon Baker in inviting all of you to a MERmen dinner at Numbers next Friday(2/27/09)at 7:30 At the Rentboy.com night I will be there early(as usual-I will be early to my own funeral most likely) Brandon Baker is going to be sending out an invite to several working fellas-and as always there will be plenty of cute "hosts"working the room. Now It could have been nothing at all going on here-but fortunatelyI had warned my friend of this and he did not drink that drink.The two guys left shortly after this.

Does putting him in a taxi count ? Honestly-I rarely have any desire to socialize with most of the boys I play with.Hell I rarely remember/know their names hence the lack of reviews. There have been some,and we remain friendly,that have come to be special to me. My friend Hussy loves to find special hot guys for a day long BF experience-but it has to be a mutually enjoyable thing that is off the clock.He does pay them well for play time,but the shopping(he likes to buy them clothes)dining amd shows has to be something that the fella appriciates of itself-and not part of a financial arrangement.
