  1. A few months ago I've heard Rio's sauna 117 raised their admission price from R$ 35 to R$ 45 AT ONCE! That's nearly 30% in a country where the inflation rate is around 6% a year. I was very curious to find out how this steep raise played with the customers. Nobody in this forum that reported on 117 in the last few months mentioned any big change at least regarding attendance so I assumed that it didn't have much of an effect. Tonight I managed to go there for the first time since the admission went up and I was in shock. Less than half the number of customers, same with the number of boys. Tuesdays are their biggest night (free suites) and the waiting time for a suite at peak hour (8 to 9 PM) that used to be around an hour or even 90 minutes on specially crowded nights was no more than 10 to 15 minutes tonight. Before or after the peak time no waiting at all. They also raised the price they charge the boys to work there from R$ 10 to R$ 20. The effect was so dramatic that they had to lower back to R$10 on the weakest nights (Wed, Thursd and Sun) and kept at R$ 20 on the other nights. The outcome: The boys that do less business don't go on the R$ 20 nights anymore. The quality of the boys remains unchanged but the number is noticeable lower. Monik (the owner) the most savvy person in this business apparently made a huge mistake raising the prices all over at once. Thursdays Wednesday and Sundays that used to be hit or miss nights are now totally miss, Tuesday still a hit boywise, but the house is no longer alive as it use to be, the dressing area looked particularly depressing. She is definitely making less money with the new higher prices. It would be interesting if the members that go on a regular basis would keep this forum informed on this situation, after all quite a few members will travel to Brazil in the next few months. In additional news on the same subject, despite Monik opening her flanks, Junior (owner of Point 202) did not take any advantage of the situation, immediatelly raised the prices by the same amount, and the higher prices probably will be substantially harder on him. A boy at 117 told me that he was at Point last week and there were more people on stage than in the audience. Junior makes all the mistakes he possibly can. Let's see how long the position of also-run is a sustainable one. Meio-Mundo seemed to play smart and kept the old prices (R$ 35). Hard to know the outcome cause not many people that goes to 117 also goes to MM. Hopefully they will come out winners and make the facilities improvements they badly need. Also regarding the subject of price increase: the timing could not be worse. Brazilian economy is not doing so well anymore. The numbers go from bad to horrible, finally catching up with the rest of the world. The dollar is very favorable to tourist: $2.15 on the official market, $2.30 on the black. O Globo newspaper had as a headline just a couple days ago: "Personal Consumption Way Down- The End of an Era"

  3. If you never heard about that history, if you never heard about that people, if they don't have any meaning in your life, why should you care? Just because is there? And what's worse, overcharging for meanlingless? Get a life!
  4. And we are all forgetting the only out member of a boy band that became a superstar, at least for a while: Menudo's Rick Martin. It's true that he was only out way after the band was over, but actually he did not have to bother.
  5. The first one from the left actually looks like a male version of Morrissey.
  6. Let's not forget about that guy from N'Sinc that also came out. I think all guys from all boy bands must be hot, after all beauty is the only thing they have to offer and this one fits the bill (unlike One Direction). The one that looks like Paul McCartney is actually much better lookin than him and already got all my lovin. One thing: I don't think is obrigatory one of them to come out. Misteries are very intriguing and secrets are a wonderful thing! Despite all that Bieber will eventually come out. As a lesbian!
  7. CAMP above else, and that sure helps. Gay-CAMP masterpiece: "The Valley of the Dolls", with the immortal exchange "your husband is not a man". Runner up:" Mommie's Dearest" with La Dunnaway doing the best to emulate La Crawford's eyebrows.
  8. Madonna is a gay activist but this has nothing to do with her being a gay icon. She is an icon because besides being beautiful she is the ultimate slut, the one every queen worth their salt would like to be able to get away with it. Milk is certainly a remarkable guy, but does he knows how to express himself with his eyebrows the same way Crowford does? Is he able to carry himself in a Halston outfit with the same aplomb as Diana? Does his use of mascara is particularly inspiring to you? If the answer to these questions is no, he still might be an untouchable gay hero but not an icon. Got it?
  9. Really predictable to pose as a victim and sell a book claiming she was in hiding because was forced by others and ten years into her career still claiming she was living with her (male) manager. Not even Jodie Foster went that far. Apparently she and the record execs were 100% right. In her first decade her audience was almost totally male, as is the case with all hard-rock acts, lesbians didn't care for her (they listen to folk/singer-songwriter stuff). As soon as became known about her sexuality the straight males abandoned her. I have a straight male friend that always loved her and he told me when he went to see her live in the NY area years ago he was one of the half-dozen males or so among 2000 cheering lesbians that probably jumped in cause she is one of them and they didn't have anyone else to hang to since The Indigo Girls faded 2 decades ago.
  10. Sorry, but there are several corrections needed: Gloria Gaynor did not write "It's Raining Men", it was written by Paul Jebara and Paul Shaffer (of David Letterman fame) and recorded in the early eighties by the Weather Girs (previously known as "Two Tuns of Fun"). Of the two writers Mr Jebara had a way more colorful persona (gaywise) than Mr Shaffer. He produced many artists (including The Weather Girls), wrote several disco hits (including Donna Summer's "Last Dance"), worked as character actor in several movies ("Light Sleeper" with Susan Sarandon is one of them). He was part of the Warhol crowd in the late seventies / Studio 54 era, and at the time was Joe D'Allessandro sugar-daddy. He died of AIDS in 1992, a couple weeks before "Light Sleeper" opened in theaters (highly recommended). Also I think the list mixes people gays admire and people gays would like to emulate and gays tend to have as icons the ones they would like to emulate as is the case with most females listed (Ms Aguillera is kind of a stretch). Gays admire Elton because he was one of the first to come out and get married, but he did not have a primarily gay audience in his many years as a rock star. Joan Jett is certainly a lesbian icon, but if she was rejected by record companies was not because of her sexuality. Until the early nineties she pretended she was straight, her manager being her boyfriend. One gigantic omission: Diana Ross, and on a more sophisticated basis Maria Callas. Runner up: Patty Labelle
  11. This strategy is perfectly doable in Rio hotels, specially the walk-in ones (as opposed to drive-in ones). There is a pretty good one in Copacabana called Lido Hotel, located near Lido Square, around R$ 75,00 for 2 hours period the last time I was there. I used this strategy a number of times but is not even required, since they accept gay couples out front. Most rent boys are familiar with the hotel and they walk right in.

  13. Although these are American brands, the goods are made in Brazil. Levi's does have a factory in Brazil and the products sold there are locally produced. Same with Coke, Pepsy, even Apple is producing iPads and iPhones in the country. It's the sixth biggest economy in the planet after all. And Brazilians do love McDonalds, they are everywhere always with huge lines and staggering prices. Is one of the most expensive places on earth, vastly covered with disbelief by the international press. Pretend otherwise is trying to hide reality.
  14. I tried to stay away on this fee discussion on Brazilian rent boys, but can't resist. The guy in the photo above, Jonathan is white, easily approachable, (so much for the absurd idea tha whites are constantly mobbed), very personable, perfect and well maitained phisique, I've had him many times and never paid more thn R$ 80. Case is closed.
  15. Hi Oz , kindly let me know if the guy you've mentioned , Marco, has a second name, I mean besides the last name. The description fits somebody I was extremely fond of (to put it mildly) and I would love to know if he still doing the rounds. I would imagine he is now 27, maybe 28, no older than that, but the last time I saw him, a little over a year ago, he was still boyish and looked younger than his age. I'm puzzled because nobody ever mentioned his name on this forum, much less published a photo (which I assume he would never agree). Thanks in advance.
  16. Yes, the dick and everything else is very nice, but big dicks are seen everywhere, while these legs are a sculpture, pure wonderment. Very disturbing.
  17. The boy on the left on the first photo at the hotel has a pair of legs that probably will be very hard to forget.
  18. I understand your concern, on the other hand there is a paranoid, hypocrite and phony attitude that is affecting the entire country, bow to it only increases the unhealthiness. The politically correct age is over, as it should, just look at Tarantino, Lars Von Trier and others.
  19. I don't see the option on race, so prevalent on this forum, and I don't think that body type covers that( mine is swimmers body, which in thesis anyone can have it).
  20. AdorĂ¡vel boys, specially the last one. Whatisname, where can be found? Top? Thanks in advance
  21. I used to have a huge crush in James Franco, since the first frame he is in in the first Spideman, for many years he was my #1 boy/man in the world (Ryan Phyllip being #2), love that scene in "Milk" (chapter 5 on the DVD) when he gets out of the pool naked. We don't see anything but the queen who is poolside does and his reaction is to raise his eyebrows, everything done in a very subtle way, great queer filmmaking. Sadly I don't think he is that hot anymore. Who deserves to take his place? Pettyfer? Liam?
  22. No problems with me either.
