I'm currently in Bangkok and will be leaving in about 30 hours so I need to be thoughtful with how I allocate my time. I arrived at BKK airport at 11:40pm last night. Immediately after customs I took out 10.7k baht from a Kasikorn Bank ATM. I then walked past the taxi area and instead opted for a Grab. I wanted to avoid any potential hassle with the taxi drivers as I'm under the impression that they like to gouge tourists a bit and I also wanted to pay with a credit card so Grab was ideal. Within 15 minutes my Grab arrived and off we went. About 35 minutes to my hotel in Silom. The ride with all fees was about 650 baht and I was feeling generous so added 200 baht tip. Checked into my hotel(The Quarter) at about 1:15am. I then freshened up and decided not to waste time and head straight to Good Boys. It was a 6 minute walk with the slightest drizzle of rain. First I walked down the main road to get a lay of the land and then doubled back to the Pavilion under Fresh Boys where the other gogo bar is located. It was about 1:45am and they were about to close so it was probably unexpected that I showed up. As I got close to the door a boy greeted me and walked me inside. So here's my update. Please be gentle. I made some serious mistakes and I'm going to just put them all out there so I don't make them again and hopefully it will help you guys avoid this kind of situation. He was allowed but I was a little taken aback by the request. The customers were all expats my age or older. He was the only Japanese guy and he was definitely the youngest at 20 years old. We ordered margaritas with the name "Go Fuck Yourself". He was having a super intense reaction to the sour and salty tastes and it was so fun to see him squirm. We really enjoyed that. We also swung by my old hotel to pick up my heavy backpack. I wanted to take him to Teamlabs Tokyo but it was sold out that day. I had mentioned shrines and temples earlier and I had seen something about Yasukuni so I mentioned that to him. We got a taxi to the Yasukuni shrine. I knew of this shrine because among Japan's neighboring countries it is controversial for various reasons I will not get into here. It was definitely a beautiful place. There were restrictions on photography and behavior in certain areas. There were guards there to make sure everyone behaved. My guy enjoyed showing me the different exhibits and making sure I did the various shrine specific rituals the correct way. We then went out to a Western/Civil War era themed steakhouse which was tasty and fun. I like that he takes me to these places where I'm the only obvious foreigner instead of the more touristy spots where foreigners are ubiquitous. We went back to the apartment for a shower and then raided the local 7/11 for beers and munchies for the apartment. We feasted and watched a famous Japanese movie that I recommended to him called Battle Royale. He'd never heard of it but was clearly enjoying it. Sadly I was tired and as we were getting ready for bed he took awhile brushing his teeth and I passed out. The next day we had some fun in bed and showered. Got breakfast at a tasty cafe nearby. For lunch we ended up getting some delicious Gyoza. We grabbed my bag around 1pm from the apartment which was sadly not available to me anymore.
