  1. This is a great story with a really nice slide show. Be sure to see all the photos. http://bangkok.coconuts.co/2013/10/08/prison-fight-inmates-battle-foreigners-freedom
  2. That is one of the main reasons I don't go there. The transportation sucks and while easy to find, they always overcharge and I find it crazy.
  3. Out NBA center Jason Collins is still unsigned, but the NCAA can boast its first openly gay player: Derek Schell, a 22-year-old guard for the Hillsdale College Chargers came out in an eloquent essay for OutSports on Monday, part of a series for National Coming Out Week. Schell, a senior business major at the south-central Michigan school, called being a closeted teen at his Catholic high school a nightmare. I heard every gay slur in the book, directed at me and at others, just because it was, and unfortunately still is, part of our societys language I constantly felt like I was walking on eggshells, afraid to act a certain way or say something that may give away my truth. I pushed every worry and negative thought aside and committed to play college basketball, hoping, sometimes even praying, that I would find some sort of remedy for these thoughts I could not get rid of. 4. Great story. Thank you for sharing. Now, I'm also curious, would this have been possible had you not been able to speak English?
  5. Thanks Moses. I needed one really quick and Firecat suggested I actually go to the airport office and I did. I was trying to book a flight on Air India but their website denied my CC as they said my IP was Thailand but the CC was USA. I called them to book it on the phone and they don't do it. Shocking right? So, I went to their office. Let me just say for a country with a lot of programmers, all their websites suck!
  6. I use 12Call and I book a 3G plan. It is very fast in Bangkok and does well in Pattaya but not as fast as Bangkok. The cost is 899 for one month. When you go to get a Sim Card, ask them your options and they will tell you. I always have the BF call them and talk as he gets the best deal when you can chat in their language. But, most owners of the phone booths know the plans pretty well. Esp. if you get from MBK like most of my friends do.
  7. Both the Rosetta Stone and the Pimsleur is great.
  8. The guys at Invision said that if you follow these steps, it should be fine. My apologies for the inconvenience. http://kb.iu.edu/data/ahic.html

  15. Get lucky in the backcountry. Need another reason to add a condom to your med kit? With a little water and a lot of sun, you can turn one into a liquid lens. Do it You need a regular condom (light colored and non-ribbed; non-lubricated is best because it can double as an emergency canteen). (1) Dump at least a few ounces of clear liquid into the condom. (This technique requires less liquid than the plastic bottle.) (2) Twist the condom until a tight sphere of liquid forms at the bottomyou want a totally smooth surface. (3) Shift the condom-balloon around to find the hottest, most-focused point and aim this beam at your tinder pile. (Tips: Use your fingers to squeeze the sphere to further fine-tune your light beam; make sure its angled toward the sun to maximize its strength and heat; and keep your tinder bundle sheltered from windits all about heat.) http://www.backpacker.com/start-a-fire-with-a-condom/survival/17845

  17. Gay and Gay Friendly Florianópolis Hotels Casa da Lagoa | Servidao Palmeiras Nativas 500 | (48) 3269-9569 | http://casalagoa.com.br/florianopolis/in-english/ This is a cute little place in the Lagoa area, which is hip enough not to ever need to go into the city center, which can get tricky at night. There's wifi in the garden as well as the rooms but there are only four of them, so book in advance.
  18. Gay and Gay Friendly Florianópolis Hotels Hotel Daifa | Rua Professora Maria Julia Franco 294 | (48) 3225-8300 | http://www.hoteldaifa.com.br/index2.php From the gorgeous views on the rooftop pool deck, you'd have a hard time believing you're right in the center of town. But not all rooms have a sea view, so make sure to enquire when booking. The rooms could use some updating, but they have AC and the Special Suite has a corner Jacuzzi with one hell of a view.
  19. I found this at the Emporium Cinema bathroom yesterday. It reminded me of my first trip to Thailand and not being able to figure out where the footprints came from on my toilet at the Intercontinental in Bangkok.
  20. My boyfriend had to go home last weekend in order to help the family get a wall around their home filled with cement so the water would not go in the home. He showed the photos to me and it looked like a lot of work. He said this year was really bad.

  22. I have been to this school 20 times over the years. One of my girlfriends (yes, Oz use to date girls) from high school went to this school and I spent some time there. There was a reason I chose to move to the East Coast and go to a "liberal" school. Bigots like this are nothing new in the South. I was hoping that many of them would change over time and while I do see some changes in this part of the country when I visit, there is a great deal more work to do to get out these hateful people from society!
  23. No, I don't know him. I buy the images from stock photo websites so that we can stay within legal boundaries for the photos we use. It has happened to me as well and I thought I was the only one. I have asked the programmers to look into this on Monday. I'll keep you updated.

  25. I have read this story with disgust. If any group would think the content of that play is something to laugh or joke about, shame on them. And, shame on the administration for not banning them from the school.
