According to that episode, the chemically induced hard-on that won't quit is terribly painful, with the possibility of permanent disablement of the afflicted dick. It was the suffering and the possibility that made the character give in to the friend who told him he should see a doctor. The doctor examined the damage under a discreet sheet, declared the dick to be the color and shape of an eggplant, and stated the treatment options available in relatively normal circumstances. But the patient had waited too long, and was obliged to endure the drastic one of having the blood drawn. The deed was done without anesthetic of any kind.
