An article in today's NY Times maintains that beautiful people have it so much better than the um, non-beautiful.

"..., being attractive also helps you earn more money, find a higher-earning spouse (and one who looks better, too!) and get better deals on mortgages. Each of these facts has been demonstrated over the past 20 years by many economists and other researchers...Most of us, regardless of our professed attitudes, prefer as customers to buy from better-looking salespeople, as jurors to listen to better-looking attorneys, as voters to be led by better-looking politicians, as students to learn from better-looking professors. This is not a matter of evil employers’ refusing to hire the ugly: in our roles as workers, customers and potential lovers we are all responsible for these effects."

So, one nice thing about being an internet poster- people don't care what you look like!

But for those who don't get the advantages of the beautiful, the author suggests that "Ugliness could be protected generally in the United States by small extensions of the Americans With Disabilities Act. Ugly people could be allowed to seek help from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and other agencies in overcoming the effects of discrimination. We could even have affirmative-action programs for the ugly."

How this would be done is explained further in the article, cited below. But, if you dispute the author's points, ask yourself when was the last time you hired an ugly escort?

NOT the same thing. When is the last time I hired an ugly accountant or ugly pilot or ugly carpenter or plumber, etc. etc.? Those folks (thankfully for me) are hired for what they know and what they can do, not how they look. OTOH, escorts are partially hired for how they look, just like models, actors, TV personalities and others. If they can "perform", so much the better.

I'm glad that I don't have to put my face pic on here. Lol. It defends how you define beauty. I find people who work hard and balance things in their life attractive and it shows. Successful people tend to manage their time and money well and tend to take good care of themselves. And that shows through their physical appearance. You don't have to look like a model to be successful. If you manage well what you already have that you get you far, IMO. It's your inner ability and balance that is important.

When the plumber, or the doctor, or the detective enters your house and you note that he is really hot, your heart goes pitter patter. Beauty has a hold on us.

And it makes no sense, does it? Why the jaw line in one way makes a guy handsome, an inch or two off and he is not. We cannot choose to be beautiful, it's a gift, at least most of the time.

But, I agree that real beauty is what is in the heart. I like to be surrounded by people with good hearts and smart minds. Beauty is secondary, or even tertiary. Until it comes to sex, and then what is beautiful to me may not be beautiful to you. The laws of attraction have been mystifying people for centuries.

But, the study shown in the opening post proves that beautiful people seem to thrive more than those who don't have that square jaw. Go figure.

The ones that don't turn into a prince will at least have a shot at a nice settlement from the ADA.

What was the relative amount of frogs that you kissed prior?

Your comment reminds me of a LA Law program where the story line was about a guy who licked toads (for their hallucinary secretions). Now, don't get excited; I don't remember where they could be found.
