The mayor of the fourth-largest city in Mississippi has been forced to come out of the closet after the receipts from his expenses claim included a visit to a gay “lifestyle store and sex shop”.

Greg Davis, mayor of Southaven, who was divorced from his wife last year, had been subject to a criminal investigation for allegedly misusing $170,000 when receipts revealed he spent $67 at a gay shop in Toronto, Canada.

Davis, who has three daughters from his marriage and ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2008 promoting “family values”, also spent thousands of dollars at local liquor shops.

How dumb do you have to be to claim sex toys as expenses?

Not that it much matters to the above points but what is $67 compared to $170,000? Also, I don't know what a liquor shop is. I think most likely he spent big bucks on expensive meals with lots of drinks which could have included expensive wine. Most liquor stores in MS and TN don't even have in stock very many if any expensive bottles of liquor or wine.

I think this guy was crying out for help and spent the money as part of his "problem". I am not defending him only providing a 5 cent analysis.

Well, to be fair, while the shop in question (Priape, 501 Church Street, Toronto) is in the middle of Toronto's Gay Village, not EVERYthing in there could be considered of interest to gay men only. The store has a wide selection of S&M gear (floggers, restraints, leather masks, etc.) and sex toys (dildos, edible oils, group sex videos, etc.) which might appeal to your typical Republican family-values type family. It is also quite clean, modern, brightly lit, and has wonderful (and anatomically correct!) displays of all of its merchandise!

Also, don't forget that Toronto's Gay Village is right downtown, a block away from the main north-south street (Yonge Street), and within easy walking distance of the Canada's major Financial District, the Provincial Legislature of Ontario, dozens of downtown hotels, two universities (including the University of Toronto, Canada's largest), a number of grade schools, a whole slew of churches (including the local Church of Scientology franchise), many international consulates (including that of the United States), and Maple Leaf Gardens (where the fabled Toronto Maple Leafs used to play hockey, but has just reopened as a combination grocery store and university hockey rink). The fine gentleman could have chosen the store simply because it was conveniently located viz a viz his other activities in our fine city!
