Any reviews on this hotel from posters here? I hate to pay big bucks for a hotel when I am only going to arrive about 2 a.m. The Tarntawan is about $89 for a deluxe room, which is higher than I thought it would be.

What I want, though, is a comfortable place to be following a 24 hour or so trip across the ocean. Sleep will be what's on my mind before bar boys. So far I am only in the planning stage- this after telling myself no trip to Thailand next year. (Blame Oz and his highly exciting posts on Thailand!)

The hotel very subtly says on their website "no joiner charge."

Hotel is clean, rooms well maintained. Very central location to pat pong area and boy bars. Tawan bar around the corner. Hotel is basic, staff friendly, and no issues with bringing bois back. Free breakfast usually with room rate. If your expecting the Ritz look elsewhere, if you are expecting a Holiday Inn type hotel, this is it. I prefer the Crowne Plaza Lumpini Park, but is more expensive.

Thanks for the reply, Casteran. I have walked by the hotel and know the area. But it's a comfortable bed I want most. Le Meridien had the most comfortable beds and is just down the street. But their prices are up. Booking.com has it at $260 a night, whereas other sites are half that. I paid $105 in January.

The Crowne Plaza is,I believe, previously a Pan Pacific. I stayed there for its soft opening and paid $126 a number of years ago. I had to check out as it was so noisy from room construction,which, of course, the front desk denied was happening. You could hear it everywhere since the hotel faces an atrium.

Well the beds themselves at Tarntawan are just basic. Beds are Crowne Plaza (yes, formerly Pan Pacific) are very comfy - especially when you have guests to share it with no construction noise despite some minor work being done at entrance area. Le Meridien is right in the heart of that area as well, comfy beds, modern rooms, but I did find them very friendly towards male guests. Female guests and their patrons did not seem to get hassled, I was hassled twice during one visit, won't stay there again.

Asia Travel stories, well, let's see. I have visited Thailand, Cambodia, Hong Kong and Japan. Each very unique in culture, scenery and ambiance. I enjoy not just the night life and gay attractions, but culture and history. Japan I find the most fascinating of countries, especially visiting the countryside areas. Hong Kong, just a big concrete jungle with LOTS of people. Thailand, well we all know the many faces of Thailand. Cambodia, much like Thailand with, it seemed, more historical areas to visit.

I have traveled many places in the world and the fortune to live in many cities around the globe, each has its own allure. Asia is still on my top lists of areas to visit, going to Thailand for 10 days in February for some good ole fashion R&R.

Lucky, the Holiday Inn Express (new one) near the malls is great value and when I was there a few months back was less than 2,000 baht per night. The rooms were very small but it was walking distance to Siam Paragon and MBK!

Thanks Oz. I remember seeing the advertisements for the Holiday Inn when I was last there. but this trip I won't be traveling solo, so small rooms might not work out.

Try the Saladaeng Colonnade from Agoda. Nice 1 bedroom suite with lots of room. Have not stayed recently but probably about 3100 baht ++

5 minute walk to Silom and the gay Discos. Little further to the bars. No problem with visitors, but most times will ask for ID.

Breakfast sucks but everything else is nice and attached to the Best Italian Restaurant in Bangkok IMHO .. Zannottis

Depending on dates Centre Pointe Ratchadmari is as nice as any place I have ever stayed in BKK and 5 minute or less walk to Skytrain. Again check out Agoda for specials.

I stayed at the Renaissance last month and I love it. Great location. Again, not in the are you like but a good time.

Yes, we are getting off area and off price. My original thought that was on my first night, why spend big bucks for a room that you enter at 2 am? Would the lower-priced Tarntawan be a good substitute?

If I am going to pay big bucks,then the Le Meridien is awfully nice and right in Patpong. Or the Hilton Millenium on the river- a great place.

I stayed at the Renaissance and did not like all of the security. It was thought to be a target for terrorist attack.
