Chilean Food Porn

I found the food in Chile to be quite interesting. Tons of composed sandwiches. Most of the breads are made with stone-ground wheat. Even the pizza can be had with a stone-ground crust. Proteins run the gamut from beef, pork, chicken and turkey, roasted - not processed, as well as fish, with varied mixtures of veggies and cheeses. Filling, healthy and cheap. Then they have something which I did not try, Viennesas - Hot Dogs loaded with whatever you could imagine.

Due to the Humboldt current bringing cold water north from the Antarctic, the fish and shellfish were incredible. The grilled salmon in the one photo was served with a type of green bean we'd never encountered but everywhere in Chile. Kind of like a superlong french-cut. And little taste.

The Chilean King Crabs were nice, but not cheap. The restaurant we ate in is located in the old central fish market. There are still a number of fish mongers there, but also a number of restaurants. Located not far from the Plaza Das Armas and the La Moneda Palace.

I've eaten oysters all over the place. These were not exceptionally large but incredibly tasty, about the only ones better were in-season spring while spending time in Bruges and Zandvoort.

Final photo is of an incredible plate of ceviche served with cold boiled potatoes. Splendid eating. Pisco Sour peeking out at the top of the photo. Actually preferred the wines. Ditto a mojito over the pisco.

I neglected to take a photo of a seafood pizza on a stone-ground crust. Exceptional. Loaded with shrimp, scallops, clams, squid and mussels.
