Taiwan's former President Chen Shui-bian, only the second democratically elected President in the country's history, has been sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of embezzlement, taking bribes and money laundering, involving a total of $15m while in office from 2000-2008. His wife, already jailed for perjury in the case, was also sentenced to life for corruption. Their son and daughter-in-law received sentences ranging from 20-30 months for money laundering. Other relatives received suspended sentences. Two former advisors were given sentences of 16 and 20 years in prison.

 

I bring this up only because it is interesting to note how Taiwan deals with crooks at the head of government and the comparison with Thailand's handling of its convicted former PM and his wife.

I wonder what would happen if Thailand's ex-PM came back. Maybe he would be dealt with in the same way and he knows it, so he stays away.
