Yeah, that's one of the worrying things. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that the military and government are two separate entities. For example, the US President is the commander-in-chief of the military, and he's the head man. In Thailand it's different, and Abhsit isn't the head of the military.

 

In Thailand, the military and government work together. The military doesn't work for the government, like in other countries. So officially, the military is there to protect Thailand, without any actual allegiance to whatever government is currently in power. In my mind, this definitely opens the door to problems. Considering Thailand is still struggling with the whole concept of democracy, it's understandable things are setup this way.

It doesn't appear to me that any major crackdown is coming very soon. Yesterday there were meetings planned between red shirt leaders and school officials to work out ways for students to attend schools in the demonstration area. These classes don't start until May 6 to 16...therefore it looks like they are planning on this going on for the long haul!!

The latest information includes shots (rubber bullets) and tear gas being fired at Red-Shirts by the military. Details are sketchy at the time I'm writing this post because that occurred less than 90 minutes ago.

 

There is also a report that the police have closed down the Don Muang expressway, which is the expressway leading to Don Muang airport and also one of the main routes to points north of Bangkok and from the north into Bangkok and Pattaya.
