March 25, 201115 yr The largest gay festival in Asia will be held this year, 2011, from 13th August to 19th. The festival is held yearly about 20km northeast of Mandalay, for a whole week! Thousands of people from all over Myanmar come to celebrate the Taungbyone Nats. Taungbyone is a religious ceremony to honor two Moslem brothers on the grounds of a Buddhist temple through the Nat celebrations! It is however in fact largely a gay festival. Plan your trip well as ALL of the means of transportation from Yangon to Mandalay is booked during these days. Best is to fly up a day or two before the start.
