Does any one know what the cost would be overland from pattaya to siem reap, and how long would it take, Ive just checked the fare on bangkok air and its over 10000bht return for the period i wish to travel.

2500-2700 per taxi PTT-Poipet (3-3.5 hours), 25$ per car + 15 per person Poipet-Siem Reap 1.5 hours

 

Border crossing is 15 min if you have e-visa and cross border before noon.

The train BKK to Aranya Prathet is something like about 50 baht (6 hours).

I also tried the bus from Aranya Prathet to Pattaya, which was something like 300~400 baht, finishing @ the North bus station.

 

Then a Tuk tuk to the border 60 baht.

You can then get a taxi from the border (~Poi Pet) to Siem Reap for about $40. Maybe you can find some other tourist at the border to share the cost (I did this first time, paying only $20).

 

You could fly to Phnom Penh (Air Asia), enjoy a couple of nights there & then take a 5 hour bus ride to Siem Reap.

 

Booking a taxi from Siem Reap to the border seems to be slightly cheaper - I paid about $35.

beste combo, starting from PTY, is likely the borderrun-vans, but make sure they actually go to Aran (many use another border). Then simply skip the return and find your own way on Khmer side. All details-eevn where you have to turn left or right-at talesofasia.com. Forget train if starting from PTY.

Taxi from SR to Poipet is 30-35 and don't depends on q-ty of passengers, but taxi to SR from border cost more cuz bribes in Poipet: every driver must pay to police in Poipet 10-15$ for each farang which he pickups in Poipet.

Going to BKK and getting the train is probably only for anyone who wants to take a niice slow trip seeing some of Thailand on the way. I did this on my first trip and enjoyed every minute.

Next time, I'll probably go for a quicker route. Are there any nice quick minivan options from BKK also?

- they are small and there are not enough space for legs, I suggest to use first class buses instead: they have about 1 m space before next row of seat

- usually they are connected with some touts at border and try to be with connected minibus at cambodian side in SR after sunset for to "sell" you in questhouse for %% commission "Mister it is already dark and dangerous at streets, you must stay here".

I used quite a nice bus from Aranya Prathet to BKK last time. Unfortunately it stopped for a break after only an hour. Would be better if they just got on with it.

 

Something that goes direct and quickly to the border, with comfortable seats would be nice. I have read reports of buses taking tourists so slowly they arrive at midnight and get pressure tactics to use some lousy overpriced hotel. I can easily ignore the sales pitch, but arriving that late is undesirable.

There are 2 bus companies: one is state and one is private. State buses are more comfortable, cheap and use shorter path to the border. Cost is about 250 Baht, 4-4.5 hours.

 

To talk about "quick" you can only about taxi. Other - wans and buses - take the same time 4-4.5 hours

It is about buses and wans from Khaosan Road. They try to delay you on the way till dark time.
