It would have taken some time to prepare the sheet and tie it to the bed post. It's reported he died from asphyxiation (lack of oxygen), not from a broken neck. That also would take some time to reach the point of no return. He must have known, or at least suspected, there were cameras in his cell. Did he know they weren't working or that the guards were asleep? I suppose it's possible he committed suicide, but it doesn't seem very probable. Quote
