Possible trip to Mexico City Summer 2025 Questions for gayguides forum

Hi Folks:

I am thinking of going to Mexico City for about a week this summer. I do not know the city. I have read the CDMX postings here. Thanks to the OPs.

Seems like there are many cultural venues. Also seems like a cruisy city with cruisy parks, last car on subways etc, especially as noted from non GG websites, eg

...and many others…….

Mexico City gay brave search

Escort prices noted were far less than those paid by JKane in his GG posting from last year – but perhaps they were noting more rough trade and perhaps prices for those conversant in SP. The local punters also seem to know where the ubiquitous by the hour love places are located for about 200-300 pesos per romp and about up to 50% more for the guy. Currently, 19 MXN / USD or 22 MXN / Euro. So not pricey at all. Does not seem to have the Rio Sexy Rose cabin sex vibe, though should have many late night sex parties and daytime bath houses. Although I like muscle guys, I accept that I might score mostly thin twinks who are cool with daddy types. Ok using grindr and escort websites.

I do not speak much SP. My FR is good and my PT is so so. If folks speak slowly, I should be able to get by, but will have to be very careful speaking. I know it will be hot. I can accept that as long as places here and there have AC. Prices overall seem less than Brazil. Airfares seem high, LOL. Maybe can use points / miles.

Questions:

Altitude sickness? I have problems with this at some ski places, will it also likely be true in CDMX?

Safety: for those of us with limited SP knowledge will cruising and walking around be more dangerous than say Brazil? I can walk around Rio during the day and even touristed places at night just fine. I can blend in a bit in CDMX so long as I don't speak. Does one cruise at night like at a park in Europe?

Condom use: should I bring a bunch, plus lots of lube? Mostly a top.

Where to stay: Zona Rosa, elsewhere? Airbnb, Mister bandb, hotel?

Any foods to avoid?

Will it basically be like Brazil: bottled water and rinsing off vegetables with filtered water, etc?

Any street food reccs?

(Not into cheese or beans – I would get too “windy”, comme le vent souffle….)

Can I / should I buy RX meds in Mexico?

Anything else to know or ask in advance?

Thx in advance.

I visited México City fall of last year and had a great time.

Language: Use as much Spanish as you're able to. Chances are, the people you come in contact with will understand English, but not French or Portuguese.

Altitude sickness: I did not experience it during my time in the city.

Safety: I stayed in the Roma Norte area. It felt safe enough to walk around the neighborhood, especially considering there were a lot of people out and about. I took an Uber everywhere else.

Condom use: I always bring condoms whenever I travel. Did not use them with any of the guys I was with though, both for paid and unpaid sex. Lube was used 100 percent of the time.

Where to stay: Roma Norte. I like to go out and enjoy the nightlife, but I also want to be able to sleep without having to wear earplugs. Go with whichever accommodation provider you like. I stayed at a Mister B&B for the first half of my time there (host lived in the property) and hotel the remaining half.

Water: Assume the tap water will give you the runs; don't brush your teeth with it. Fortunately, my MBnB host has filtered water and the hotel I stayed at has a dispenser. I bought a few bottles of sparkling water as well, just because prefer it over still.

Food recs: Churros from ChurrerĂa el Moro, tacos from Tacos La Chula Juarez and TaquerĂa Orinoco, simple food from La Herradura.
