My maintenance man told me today that his sister lives in Minnesota, and its unbelievable what is happening there. He VOTED for Trump, but has long changed his mind and feelings about the Orange gangster and criminal, and regrets his mistake. But its too late now ! . I.C.E is systematically and routinely provoking civilians to violence, according to his sister, as a pretext for Trump to use his beloved Insurrection Act. THIS is all a master plan coming to life. But listen up Sis, I might replace your word "exciting" with SCARY, as we still have 3 more years of this Insanity to go, and while Trump hopefully will Drop Dead, we still have Stephen Miller, who is younger and might be even MORE insane than Trump ? The Trump regime is governing by THREATS..... Time to cut the head off the SNAKE ! before a Democratic USA becomes nothing more than a distant memory..... and Facist stronghold. A lot CAN and WILL happen before the midterms, IF there will be midterms ? I cant imagine Trump will let his power slip away with free & fair elections. But that's the whole point of being a King in your own mind. Isn't it? All of this lends credence to the theory that this is "neo-royalism". As opposed to something like a 19th century "balance of powers" world. Trump does see himself as King, as you keep saying. He alone determines right and wrong. Venezuela is the same undemocratic country with the same corrupt and oppressive regime. But now the leader will maybe cooperate with Trump and extract oil for the US. As long as his cronies are happy and the peasants don't complain - or worse, demand accountability from ICE - Trump is the best King ever in his own mind. And it ends when we, the American people, end it. I've been a liberal Democrat my whole life. Which is to say that, in addition to being Gay, I have always been a minority in politics too. I think all my life there have been more conservatives than liberals in the US. So I know very well that compromise and "meet in the middle" is a necessary virtue. I'd say Clinton was the best President at doing that overall in my life so far. And especially in retrospect his Presidency worked pretty well. Budget surplus, anyone? All while poverty was driven to historic lows at the time. My point is it is now on Democrats to figure out: if we don't like this horror, what do we like? The verdict is out. This interview of Andy Beshear was great. I agree with him that it would probably help if Democrats nominated a Guv in 2028. There is a great case for both Newsom and Beshear, to name two. Newsom has seized the resistance lane. Beshear is the kind of guy who maybe could seize the "reform" lane, Or what might be called the "meet in the middle" lane. If I had to bet which of the two might be nominated, Newsom would be the winner of that bet in most people's minds. But my point is that both are effective Governors. And both would govern so much better than Trump. Beshear, if he could get nominated, arguably could spend eight years ending this "red state/blue state" divide. Or maybe we will nominate AOC. My heart is with her. Or your pretty boy Mamdani. Your mouth is with him. 😍 I voted for Bernie in the primaries in 2020. But arguably I was the fucking problem. If we don't like Trump, now is a very good time to figure out how Democrats need to moderate so we can win the votes, let alone trust, of all these people in the middle. So hold on, Sis. Some good could come out of this. Beshear argues, correctly, the people in the center are just sick of this. Instead of "neo-royalism", the other analogy that works is that Trump and Putin and Xi are like rival gang leaders. They'll tolerate each other and divide up turf. Even Republicans are sick of it. It is embarrassing to have our thuggish gang leader demanding that Europe hand over Greenland. Quote

And that is what is happening now in Mn, trying to force the public to swallow his Lies and OBEY him. This interview is so good it deserves a thread of its own. Stewart and Zakaria spend an hour picking apart the nuances of what is so massively fucked up about this. To me, it also proves the "neo-royalist" theory, by omission. By that I mean that Trump is simply a King wannabe in a democracy. Not a great look, or fit. By omission I mean that Zakaria keeps saying again and again this doesn't make sense. America was the author of the global world order, to oversimplify. Why throw away what WE built? Why throw away a peaceful world with the strongest coalition and the strongest allies the world has ever seen so that we can ................. what? Arrest Maduro? Rename Greenland to Trumpland? It makes no fucking sense. Why go back to a more dangerous and potentially disastrous 19th century world, which is what we tried to get away from after World War 2? As brilliant as he is - or perhaps because of his brilliance and sincerity - Fareed can't see it for what you think it is. Trump just wants to be King. Period. It's more important to him that he can do whatever the fuck he wants in Venezuela and make his own fucking rules as he goes along. Who cares about global rules? Like with who? Canada? Europe? The shit holes like Mexico? Give me a fucking break! Stewart makes another key point. The victims of this world order - to oversimpllfy, White Factory Town America - are happy to go along for the ride. Even if it does not get them the change they want, at least it gets them the retribution and vengeance. To quote Trump directly. Fareed states the case for optimism at 1:08:00 in the interview. I will quote him directly. "I tend to think .......... maybe it's just that I'm an optimist immigrant ......... this is not going to last. This is not going to last. You know, Americans don't like this, I don't think. (Ya, think, Sis? 😉 ) I think the idea that America stands for nothing .... no higher ideals .... the idea that the United States is just a bully ........ that it is going to literally consciously emulate the ways of old-fashioned imperialists? That it's essentially going to become a version of Putin's Russia? I don't think this is popular. I don't think people like it." Let's let Fareed correct Fareed, or add nuance. He also states that there is a small majority that does not like it. A new WSJ poll backs Fareed up. On these questions, like ICE and deporting immigrants, something like 51 to 55 % of Americans say Trump has gone too far. 41 to 45 % say he is doing this right, or he hasn't gone far enough. There is a very big part of America, including people I love in my family, that love this stuff. It is the change they want. They see this as America winning. Trump is like a gang leader. And he is smart enough to know how he can be taken out. Voters disapprove of how is handling inflation, health care, and even the Ukraine War by large margins. If Biden had not botched immigration and allowed there to be a Democratic primary, Democrats probably would have been able to stop Trump. But the real killer was inflation. It killed Biden, and other incumbents across the world. And now it may kill Trump. Good riddance. If Democrats can learn from all this and unite, this can all change. I'm not holding my breath. But I do think Fareed is right. This is not the America that America wants to be. At least a slim, and now growing, majority of Americans. Quote
