My nephew and I joke that all of this is above our pay grade.  And it is way, way, way, above Donald Trump's pay grade.  Although even he recognizes it is never cool to mess with the bond market.  And yet he does.  He can't help himself.  As smart and obedient as The Queer Who Shall Not Be Named is, even he can't keep Trump on message.

My nephew insists that, at the end of the day, nobody anywhere is the world can beat the US Treasury bond as the safe haven of last result.  Famously rich pragmatists like Warren Buffet say never bet against the United States.  Even if you do bet against a complete fucking piece of shit like Donald Trump.  

I tend to agree with my nephew.  Who adds the line, "So where's the inflation, stupid?"  The Great And Powerful President Trump would agree.  Working class America is not happy, though.  Did I mention big ass trucks cost more thanks to these fucking tariffs?

I've been a liberal Democrat my whole life.  Which is to say that, in addition to being Gay, I have always been a minority in politics too.   I think all my life there have been more conservatives than liberals in the US.  So I know very well that compromise and "meet in the middle" is a necessary virtue.  I'd say Clinton was the best President at doing that overall in my life so far.  And especially in retrospect his Presidency worked pretty well.  Budget surplus, anyone?  All while poverty was driven to historic lows at the time.

My point is it is now on Democrats to figure out:  if we don't like this horror, what do we like?  The verdict is out.

This interview of Andy Beshear was great. I agree with him that it would probably help if Democrats nominated a Guv in 2028.  There is a great case for both Newsom and Beshear, to name two.  Newsom has seized the resistance lane.  Beshear is the kind of guy who maybe could seize the "reform" lane,  Or what might be called the "meet in the middle" lane.  If I had to bet which of the two might be nominated, Newsom would be the winner of that bet in most people's minds.  But my point is that both are effective Governors.  And both would govern so much better than Trump.  Beshear, if he could get nominated, arguably could spend eight years ending this "red state/blue state" divide.

Or maybe we will nominate AOC.  My heart is with her.  Or your pretty boy Mamdani.  Your mouth is with him.  😍  I voted for Bernie in the primaries in 2020.  But arguably I was the fucking problem.  If we don't like Trump, now is a very good time to figure out how Democrats need to moderate so we can win the votes, let alone trust, of all these people in the middle.

Let's let Fareed correct Fareed, or add nuance.  He also states that there is a small majority that does not like it.  A new WSJ poll backs Fareed up.  On these questions, like ICE and deporting immigrants, something like 51 to 55 % of Americans say Trump has gone too far.  41 to 45 % say he is doing this right, or he hasn't gone far enough.  There is a very big part of America, including people I love in my family, that love this stuff.  It is the change they want.  They see this as America winning.

Trump is like a gang leader.  And he is smart enough to know how he can be taken out.  Voters disapprove of how is handling inflation, health care, and even the Ukraine War by large margins.  If Biden had not botched immigration and allowed there to be a Democratic primary, Democrats probably would have been able to stop Trump.  But the real killer was inflation.  It killed Biden, and other incumbents across the world.  And now it may kill Trump.  Good riddance.

If Democrats can learn from all this and unite, this can all change.  I'm not holding my breath.

But I do think Fareed is right.  This is not the America that America wants to be.  At least a slim, and now growing, majority of Americans.
