Alcohol Ban July 29 & 30

I read that there will be an alcohol ban on July 29 & 30 for 48 consecutive hours due to the celebration of Buddha’s first sermon and the start of Buddhist lent. Does that mean that most of the bars and entertainment venues are likely to close for two straight days as well?

and on 28th is King's birthday, but 30th doesn't feature on list of holidays I found on Gaybutton forum

Interesting I read about the alcohol ban on the 29th and 30th on multiple websites but nothing about a ban on the 28th.

It seems that the bars (and related alcohol sales) should be permitted on the 28th of July - the King's birthday.

However, on the Buddhist holidays; 29th (Asanha Bucha Day) and the 30th (Wan Khao Phansa), the bars would be closed (no alcohol sales permitted on these days).

Also note another important detail to consider - The King's birthday occurs on Tuesday 28 July and the 2 successive Buddhist holidays occur on Wednesday 29 July and Thursday 30 July.  Many Thai people will make this a super long weekend by adding in Friday 31 July.  Therefore, if you are going to book or expect to see your favorite guy, you may want to first find out if he would even be in Bangkok/Pattaya during those days, as he may travel home or be elsewhere in Thailand to enjoy this very long weekend.

In my memory, royal birthday are no longer 'dry' days BUT my memory is not 100% reliable --- Leo beer and Cheddar Cheese nightcaps.

I was in Thailand few times during such dry days  so my advice would be to stock up on favorite tipple before 29th. What I remember fondly is that bar boys were quite willing to be booked for dry day in advance so no business sense was lost on them. Massage venues a were not affected and in Pataya some bar even stay opened , of course not selling  alcohol but lemonade was available

that would explain why one of my friends reported he had trouble booking his favorite hotels in Sukhumvit area mid week while there was no issue with weekend bookings at both ends . Provinces may be taking advantage of such long weekend and finally visit capital
