"I want snow", that is what the bf said to me today. I had asked what he wanted me to bring to Thailand on my visit in January, 2013. He has never seen or felt real snow and is intrigued. Well, finding snow in January should be easy where I live but how to get it to Thailand? Any cool suggestions?

None here but I've heard the same request many times. When the subject comes up - wanting to experience a winter such as I lived through in northern Michigan - the only way I can explain to them how "really cold" it is outside in January is to tell them that it's colder outside my home than the ice section of the refrigerator. That seems to give them a little pause (it ought to given they bundle up like Eskimos when the temperature plummets all the way down to 60F/15C!).

There is an "icebar" in Pattaya and Bankok, maybe bring him there?

The ice bar is on walking street....or on Beach Rd near Walking street....I can't recall exactly. Not all that great. There s a small section of the bar which resembles a walk-In freezer of a restaurant. A very small bar inside which offers vodka shots as the recommended drink.

The have a couple jackets/parkas that they loan out if needed. For the 5 minutes or so we were inside, I didn't need one. BF wore one though. 555

 

If I recall correctly, I was pretty expensive fr not much reason, Very much a gimmick place.

How could you make a snowman without one?

Interesting question! But I was referring to those machines which freeze water and then blow it out as a continuous stream of snow. From my experience in Hong Kong, it's snow actually falling that people who have never seen snow really want to see when they go to a similar sort of theme park.

You can fairly well ski on the stuff (I've seen the machines at work at a few ski resorts) but it's not producing the nice white fluffy stuff that I consider real snow. The recipe for that requires mother nature and nasty temperatures.

Well if you go to BOYZTOWN For Christmas, they usually have a Snow Machine working and its make the Soi full of Snow?

Thanks guys. I love the suggestions. I recall seeing a video of snowmaking in Boyztown; also the Snow Town in Bangkok sound like a great idea. And Icebar in Pattaya just might cure the bf of his desire for ice and cold and vodka shots would warm me up!!
