Anyone know of a hotel that is NOT listed on agoda or booking.com or any of the other reservation sites and might still have vacancies for Dec. 31 through Jan. 3?

 

Right now, the reservation sites are showing everything is booked for those dates except for the super expensive hotels.

 

My boyfriend just decided he'd rather be in Pattaya for New Year's than Bangkok.

 

Ugh.

 

they are all most likely full big or small, we tried to find room last year on new years eve and gave up and crashed at the family. even the ones that offer short time rooms were fully booked last year, good luck

Suggest you contact the hotels directly (and quickly). I understand that some retain a few rooms open even though the hotel websites show them fully booked. Good luck.

You didn't say why you dislike booking companies such as Agoda.

 

In Pattaya the further you are away from the beach and the "Pattaya part" of Pattaya, the less expensive and less likely to be fully booked hotels get.

 

If all else fails for those of you who want to come to Pattaya, but can't find any vacancies, "The Dark Side" is an option. Maybe not a very desirable option for holiday makers, but at least you can get a room. There are numerous hotels and guesthouses on "The Dark Side" and you would be unlikely to encounter a serious problem finding something. And several of these accommodations are new, some less than six months to a year old.

 

If it were me and I couldn't find a room where I really want one, I would try the Eastern Grand Palace Hotel. It's on "The Dark Side" just a couple hundred meters up Soi Khao Tolo. That location puts you only about ten minutes away from the beach and the gay venues by motorbike taxi. If you are interested, have a look at the following web site:

Most booking-sites do have contingents.

Excluded or at least very limited contingents are there during New Year, Chinese New Year and Songkran.

It's not the mistake of the booking-sites, but the hotels just do not give more rooms away.

 

Find a hotel on Agoda (good for its reviews) and contact the hotel directly.

Well, I ended up finding a vacancy, with all of your help. I started contacting hotels directly and ended up with a room in a place called Baan Dok Mai. It's even a gay hotel. Plus its tripadvisor reviews are excellent. The rates are quite reasonable, too. I'm happy.

 

I had actually tried to contact Baan Dok Mai before my earlier update, when I said I was giving up. My problem was I was using an old site but the one that had popped up on a Google search. I found the hotel's correct URL through a site called Nicky's Gay Pattaya.

 

Gaybutton: I'm not sure what "The Dark Side" is but the pictures your link brought me to look really, really good. I'll have to check that place out next time.

 

And fountainhall is right; I have nothing against tripadvisor, agoda or booking.com. I find them quite useful, in fact.

I have used bookin.com before to reserve a room for my boy from isaan. Paid 990 baht a night. Last time he came down a week ago, booking.com showed fully booked. I called the hotel direct and got the same type room for 750 baht.

 

Better to call and book directly and save money.

Motel 69...glad you found a place...and Baan Dak Mai is very good. The owner is a great resource if you have any questions. He has been living in Patts for a long time. I have stayed there several times and was always treated very well. Good rooms, well maintained.

 

The restaurant downstairs is a gem. Very reasonable price and very tasty food. It gets a lot of business from people coming and going from TukCom.

 

As a random bit of information, one of the staff members there during the day is also a waiter at a BT bar at night. Good guy to have as a friend....

Gaybutton: I'm not sure what "The Dark Side" is

 

"The Dark Side" is a local term for everything on the east side of Sukhumvit in Pattaya. Technically, it's not part of Pattaya at all. The major roads leading off of Sukhumvit are Soi Khao Tolo, Soi Khao Noi, Soi Neurnplabwan, and Soi Siam Country Club.

 

It is an up and coming area. When I first moved to "The Dark Side" there really wasn't much of anything. Now it's all kinds of housing developments, markets, bars (no gay bars yet, though, that I know of), restaurants, banks, ATMs, a couple trillion 7-Elevens, Family Marts etc. - you name it. The only thing that isn't out here yet is a shopping mall.

 

There are baht buses out here, but none that run to and from Pattaya. If you do stay out here, unless you have your own transportation, you're on motorbike taxis. However, if you decide to stay at the Eastern Grand Palace Hotel, since it's a large hotel perhaps they have some sort of transportation service to and from the city, although I don't know whether they do or not. If not, there is a motorbike taxi stand at the hotel entrance at Soi Khao Tolo and it seems to be manned 24 hours a day.

 

It is a nice hotel, yes, but I wouldn't give you two baht for their restaurant, though. Fortunately, there are plenty of good restaurants just up the road a bit.
