August 8, 201412 yr I am now sitting at Phuket's airport after 3 terrible day here. Firstly, the gay area is gone...yes, take those deck chairs away and now, no gay crowd but scores of screaming kids scattering themselves everywhere and anywhere.... Bring back the deck chairs where the gay can converge... Secondly,by the Act of God, the weather was extremely unkind..rainy and windy on all 3 days... cant strip down for a good tan and show off my ... I even had to skip the cruise to James Bond Island as the winds were too strong... Thirdly, prices had indeed gone up.....room mates fell due to low season but not food prices... a simple meal at a food court is almost what I would have paid for a buffet in Pattaya... If I may summarise, Pattaya has the Russians and Phuket has the Chinese mainlanders... oops,I have yet to mention the nightscene ..Paradise,my foot..I must as well look at the ladyboys at Bangla...they have better attitude than the so-sorry and worn-out state at the bars at Paradise....

Can't relate as never been there and not planning to go but hope others will report whether changes are permanent or just haze and smoke. Abang above doesn't sound as he liked new face of the island
August 10, 201412 yr Patong beach without beach chairs, very sad. It is a beach resort after all. As with anything it will change again as tourists will stay away if resorts become too militarized
August 10, 201412 yr Haven't I been obvious? I have been communicating with a fellow forummer here and he was so adamant that we won't meet in Phuket. Now I know why? .... Patong Beach does not seem to attract the locals anymore with its burgeoning (not in a good way) crowd. It has certainly became a Chinese enclave... If you have been to any of the beaches in China, you would understand me....
