New Go-Go Bar near the old Solid Bar

After our usual Sunday dinner, went with a friend to check on what we’d heard was a new go-go bar close to the now defunct Solid. We thought the name was Twink Boys. All we knew for sure is it's just around the corner from Solid where there used to be a massage place (immediately after the steps leading up to Super A).

As we drove past, we could only see was the massage place. After parking and walking by, we noticed that it has indeed now become a go-go bar. Beckoned in by one of the femme boys who used to work at Solid, we decided to check it out.

The set-up is very basic. A few chairs and sofas around 2 walls, a tiny stage with flashing lights, a boom box (the music level was thankfully pretty low making conversation easy) and room for just 3 dancers, and a very basically stocked bar at the end. Most off-putting is that the old slightly darkened glass windows are still there, so you get the feeling that everyone walking past (not that there were many) can see right in. The fact is, they can’t. The mamasan said they would be changed soon.

As we sat down on a sofa facing the stage, three boys were dancing in their own briefs, including the former Solid graduate. One taller masculine guy was from Roi-et, the other we discovered little about because he was immediately offed by the only other two patrons – Asians but not Thais. That left only two boys in the place – and it was only around 10:00pm.

We decided to have a little party and bought drinks for the boys and the mamasan. He explained he has 10 boys working in the bar. Just as we were about to ask where the others were, suddenly two more appeared, one we thought very cute, the other so-so but both sporting prominent self-induced bulges. Both are from Laos and were the friendliest of the bunch. So two more drinks were purchased.

As the party developed around us, another Asian entered with a Thai pimp. The Asian wanted to take-off the cute Lao boy and negotiations ensued. These collapsed when it became clear that the Asian was only prepared to pay a maximum of Bt. 200 for the off. So they disappeared. We forgot to check the off fee. Drinks are a not-unreasonable Bt. 150 each and my whisky nam certainly tasted more like whisky than flavoured water!

The place is actually quite a dump that needs the windows properly blacked out and a lick of paint. The main problem we decided was the mamasan. He continually pressed us about the boys’ various skills and that all but the Roi-et boy could do everything (when did I last hear that? Just two days earlier!). Not two minutes would go by without his muttering something about the upstairs rooms, the versatility of the staff, the good time we’d have – blah, blah! Even when I informed him we were offing no-one and would soon leave, he was on about how he could get anyone for us, any time, any type, since he knew so many in Bangkok and we’d have the most fantastic time. Pity there was no other customer in the bar as he then might have fluttered in their direction.

Hard to know if the bar has a future. There has been more than one bar on that little sub-soi which fairly quickly folded because, despite in one the agreeable touchy-feely attentions of some of the quite cute staff, the place was an utter dump with probably less than Bt. 10,000 spent on tarting it up. Hope the new one works, because the loss of Solid has left a definite gap in that area.

A gogo bar stands no chance whatsoever if it combines has a stage with room for just 3 dancers & one of those horrible persistently nagging mamasans.

They might as well close it right now.
