Was it here or Rio that you became "Famous" with the open curtains?

I'm going for a month in May/June... My best friend retired in Rio and is trying to convince me to move there from Mexico.... I lived there on Visa runs in 2004.... Now I have to look at it from a standpoint of LIVING there in 2025 forever.....

If I'm not mistaken, he was from Belgium.... he was the manager back then... there was a group of owners that had the BBB Inn, Dream Boys, Boys Bangkok and a disco over where GOD is now, the name slips me...maybe Freeman or Arena? I always thought he was the owner, then one night when I was with Hugh, the manager of the Ambiance at the time, in BKK...he introduced me to Neil one of the major partners....and he said he's only the manager. I got along with him, the manager, fine for many years, then one time at the BBB Inn the room had bedbugs, I reported it to him and he got all pissy, like I was blaming him for it, I wasn't...I just told him I'm changing hotels because of it.... 🤷‍♂️ Towards the end, he may have acquired ownership of Dreamboys or something that I heard in gossip. He looked grumpy or unhappy usually and near the end could barely make it up the stairs, but apparently he was good to the boys, they all spoke very highly of him

Still at the top of my list when it's $50usd or less..... Location, a/c, black out drapes, super quiet rooms, windows, comfortable bed, clean sheets/towels, breakfast now until 2pm, decent wifi, friendly staff- I know them all....feels like my home in Thailand. Paid $48 a night these 2 night with b'fast... last week $38 a night, what a bargain. I used to be in the hotel business and can get rates somewhere around this at Hilton Millennium or a little more at the Conrad... both excellent hotels where I'd also get Diamond benefits and very nice room upgrades, I know the operations manager at Conrad..... but I prefer the Tarntawan for all the listed reasons, but mostly location.

When I got my Dengue vaccine in Bali, that was one of the services they offered....just rehydrates you is what the dr said...between drinking and sweating in the heat, people don't stay hydrated enough.

Once again we will pass like ships in the night, perhaps a good thing....😝 I'm heading to Pattaya tomorrow. For a trip that I hadn't planned on staying much in Thailand, I'll be the next 2 weeks in Pattaya because India and Sri Lanka won't issue a eVisa/Visa to an Emergency passport... I'd go back to Bali in a second, but they also don't allow Emergency Passports 🙄 I don't understand why, although Labeled Emergency Passport, it has a 1 year validity, beyond the 6 month's countries require and has 6 empty pages for stamps/visas... Thailand didn't bat an eye or question anything when I arrived last night and gave 60 days to stay. The Visa guy at the Indian Embassy in Laos said that emergency documents are given to go directly back to my country.... I showed him the empty visa pages inside and he said he's not familiar with that. This "Emergency Passport" is what's given to US citizens if your passport is ever lost/stolen. SO be aware that if you're in the middle of your travel plans or a worldwide trip, it could be interrupted and you're expected to go home by some places.... Also, very little information available to know which countries accept this passport or not, just a couple of stories on the internet of people telling of their denied entry situations... or you might risk not being allowed on your flight because not even the airlines know either.

I'm having one tonight...Just got in from Laos, BKK had no problem with my Emergency passport, not a word coming in from immigration. Laos questioned where I was going, I told them back to the US, they were weird and India won't issue any type of Visa for this passport and Sri Lanka doesn't respond to emails and no one answers the phones. SO I'm just hanging in the Tarntawan tonight, catching up on some TV shows..... no drinking or sex.
