Are you guys kidding? If you are so easily embarrassed by doing precisely what so many farang come here to do, then why do you come here at all? If you're being serious, and I'm beginning to have my doubts, then you've definitely made it to my "I Don't Get It" list. I could understand your embarrassment if you were suddenly and unexpectedly embraced and kissed by a boy during the middle of a Women's Christian Temperance Union meeting, but you're embarrassed from doing the same thing everyone else comes here to do, or wishes they were here doing? And lvdkeyes makes an excellent point. What makes you so sure they're staring at you? It's much more likely they're looking at the boy. Let me see if I have this correct. Some of you are going to spend a large amount of money for the airfare and additional transportation to come to Pattaya. You're going to endure the long haul flight getting here and another one returning home. You're going to stay in a nice gay-oriented hotel. Then you're going to spend more time and money going to the bars and buying at least one drink. And then you're going to sit there by yourself instead of taking any boys off because you're ashamed and embarrassed because a few strangers, who came here themselves to take boys off, are going to look at you. Is that about right? Why am I getting the feeling that these embarrassment posts are a hoax? But if you're truly serious, then my advice is to spend your money, which will be a lot less than a trip to Thailand, for memberships on porn sites and masturbate to the videos. Better still, just go to X-tube and look at gay porn for free. You'll save yourself all that terrible embarrassment and save yourself a lot of money too. Meanwhile I, and probably the vast majority of visitors to this message board, will take off any boy we damned well please (as long as he is at least 18 years old), with no embarrassment whatsoever and without giving a damn whether anyone looking at us likes it or not. If you're here, I, for one, will be happy to walk right by you as you sit there staring at us. Again, given the choice of being the one walking down Sunee Plaza on my way to have a great time with the boy I took off or sitting and staring at others, but embarrassed to take a boy myself, guess which one I'll choose. There are some things in life that just may be worth a few moments of embarrassment.

So what? I fail to understand why you would care whether they're looking or not. What's the embarrassing part? Even when you're the one doing the looking, are you still thinking about them 5 minutes later? Personally, I have better things to think about, such as the boys I wish I was walking with. As for me, I couldn't care less. If anyone really wants to look at me walking with a boy and take note, fine with me. They can also take note of the fact that I'm the one on my way to wherever with a boy while they're taking note of the fact that they've got nothing. I can be the one walking with a boy or I can be the one sitting and watching somebody else walking with a boy. Guess which of the two I would rather be . . .
-
My friend, if you're looking for boys, that's the wrong place to stay. If you already have a boyfriend and are looking for an off-the-beaten-path accommodation, you're fine. But you're not going to find available boys there and you're not going to find many boys willing to go there with you. How are they supposed to get back? Baht buses and motorcycles are not going to be out there waiting to take passengers into town. Even if the guesthouse provides rides, I would guess the service is not available 24 hours a day. If it is, do you think they're going to provide transportation back to town for a boy you took off from a bar and is not a registered guest? A baht bus is going to cost at least 150 baht, probably more, and that's if you can find one willing to take you there. You're talking about at least a half hour ride, maybe more, each way. If you have never been to Pattaya, then I urge you to stay at either The Ambiance or Le Cafe Royale during a first visit to Pattaya. They're both gay hotels, right in the center of all the action, and there will be plenty of people to help you.

When you say "we" you are implying that your lack of confidence applies to most people, perhaps everyone. That is simply not true. You're even assuming that you can forget about sex unless you pay for it. Other than the bars and usually the beach, that is also not true. And there are plenty of Gay Romeo boys who have nothing to do with the bars. Speaking for myself, if I see a boy I like, whether in a supermarket or anywhere else, I first smile. If he smiles back and maintains at least a little bit of eye contact, then I just say hello and take it from there. Sure, I get rejected sometimes, but if we're talking and he seems to be amenable, then getting rejected is rare. If I can see it's not going to go anywhere I say "it was nice to meet you" and go about my business. You seem to be overly shy and lacking in self confidence. You've already posted that you would be self conscious simply by taking a boy off and walking through Sunee Plaza with him. What do you plan to do, come to Pattaya and watch everybody else having a good time, but you're going sit there embarrassed to do anything for yourself because of a fear of rejection and/or a fear that others may be watching you? Here's an idea that may help you. If you don't already have one, when you come to Thailand buy an inexpensive mobile phone. Now you'll have a phone number good anywhere in Thailand. Then get some small pieces of paper and write your name and telephone number on them. If you cannot bring yourself to invite someone to your room, someone you've at least said hello to, then just give him one of the papers and hope he'll call you. You'll be pleasantly surprised when you start getting those calls. You can even do that in the bars. If you call a boy over, but are too shy to walk with him through Sunee Plaza or wherever, give him one of the papers and tell him you would like him to call you sometime. Most likely you'll here from him the next day. Then you can arrange to have him meet you wherever you want. Being shy and having no confidence is just plain silly in Pattaya. I'll even go a step further. If you wish, contact me when you get here. If I'm in town I'll be glad to take you around myself. It won't take long before you realize how useless your fears are in a city like Pattaya.
-
What on earth makes you think anyone would even be paying any attention? Do you think you're the only one who takes boys off? If it bothers you that much, give the boy money for a motorcycle taxi and tell him to go to your hotel and you'll meet him there.
-
But that's the whole point, isn't it? The fact that some don't understand should not prevent them from obtaining the right to marry if that is what they want to do. Times change, perceptions change, and society changes. If tradition was static, then we would still be hunting witches and burning heretics.

Having never been to Bali, I can't personally provide any information. Perhaps others will respond. In the meantime, do a Google search for Gay Bali and several web sites will pop up. You can also do searches on the various gay Thailand web sites.

The gay area of Samui is Chaweng Beach. If you are leaving for Samui from Pattaya, non-stop flights to Samui are available from the U-Tapao airport on Bangkok Airways. U-Tapao is very convenient to Pattaya. You'll find good information on the following site: http://www.gay-samui.com You might also try the following Yahoo group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/gaykohsamui And, of course, do searches on the various gay Thailand message boards for Samui and loads of information will come up.

A crown is a cap placed over an existing tooth, usually necessary if a tooth breaks or if root canal treatment was necessary. A prosthetic tooth is called an implant. Depending on what procedure is needed and what kind of implant is needed, in Thailand expect to pay somewhere between 30,000 to 60,000 baht.
-
I definitely agree with lvdkeyes. I can't imagine why anyone should be embarrassed. Isn't that the reason for going to Sunee Plaza in the first place? To my mind, if anyone is going to be embarrassed it ought to be the ones who don't have a boy with them. If they find a boy they like, and aren't too cheap to take him off, they're going make the same walk. Also, why should you be embarrassed about some strangers staring at you? They're in Sunee Plaza too and I guarantee you they didn't go to Sunee to sit there admiring the architecture.
-
I think you made a mistake by not telling him. That's what doctors are for. He can't help your problem if he is not even aware that the problem exists. There is nothing to be embarrassed about.

Another factor to consider is where the train makes its stops when coming from the airport into town. In all likelihood you'll still need a taxi once you get to the stop, not to mention whatever you'll have to go through hauling your luggage around if no luggage carts are provided. It seems to me the rail link might be much more useful getting from the city to the airport, but far less useful coming into the city from the airport. Either way, the rail link will be useless to many who arrive and depart in the wee hours if the service doesn't run 24 hours a day. So far I haven't found anything that tells us just what the operating hours will be.

Same-sex Marriage Bill Voted Down in New York Senate December 2, 2009 (CNN) -- Gov. David Paterson pledged to keep fighting for same-sex marriage in New York after the state Senate on Wednesday killed a bill that would have legalized the practice. The bill had Paterson's support and had passed the state Assembly. Supporters predicted a close vote going into Wednesday's Senate debate. But eight of Paterson's fellow Democrats, including two members of the Senate leadership, joined a unanimous Republican caucus on the 38-24 vote. In a statement issued Wednesday afternoon, Paterson said, "It is always darkest before the dawn. "As disappointed as we are today, let's get up tomorrow and redouble our efforts," he said. "We are going to lay the foundation to make people feel comfortable to vote their conscience and not fear political backlash." Supporters promised to bring back the bill for "as many do-overs as is necessary to get us home," as Majority Leader Pedro Espada put it before the vote. "There's never a good time for civil rights. There's never, ever, ever, ever a good time for civil rights. I know. I get that," said Sen. Tom Duane, a Manhattan Democrat who was the chamber's first openly gay member. "But the paradox is, it's always the time to be on the right side of history." Only one senator spoke against the bill during Wednesday's debate. Sen. Ruben Diaz argued that the issue should be put to a statewide referendum and pointed out that 31 states have banned same-sex marriages in statewide votes. Diaz, a Democrat and a Pentecostal minister from the Bronx, said many New York religious leaders opposed the bill and called on Republicans to join him in defending "traditional values." "If we take it to the people, the people oppose it," he said. But a Marist College poll released Wednesday found that 51 percent of New Yorkers questioned favored legalizing same-sex marriage, with 42 percent opposed. A June poll by Qunnipiac University poll reported a similar spread of 51 percent to 41 percent. And Sen. Eric Adams, a Brooklyn Democrat, said that most of the 31 states Diaz cited as voting against same-sex marriage "at one time or another sold blacks into slavery." "Because the majority is in one place does not mean they're in the right place," he said. "We're in the position right now where we have to lead the country to the right place." Passage would have made New York the sixth U.S. state to legalize same-sex marriage and only the second, along with New Hampshire, to do so without a court's prodding. Connecticut, Vermont, Massachusetts and Iowa also have legalized marriages between gay couples, but federal law bars recognition of those unions across state lines.

Here are the December events for La Cage:

A taxi should cost 400 baht at the most.

I don't have a hotel recommendation, but the Skytrain does not go to the airport yet. It will be years before it's ready, if ever. Perhaps someone who lives in Bangkok can respond to your hotel information request.

Buenos Aires, Argentina (CNN) Latin America's first same-sex marriage, set to be held in Argentina on Tuesday, appeared derailed after a judge filed an injunction to stop the union until the issue can be reviewed further. Judge Marta Gomez Alsina's ruling blocks an earlier holding by another judge that found city laws banning same-sex marriage unconstitutional, the court said in a statement. Alex Freyre and Jose Maria di Bello had planned to make their marriage official at a civil ceremony and chose December 1 because it is World AIDS Day. The registrar responsible for the civil marriages in Buenos Aires has been notified of the ruling, the court said. The couple would attempt to get their wedding license anyway, the official Telam news agency reported. "We're continuing with the preparations because we, as planners, nor the couple itself, have not been notified" of the injunction, said Maria Rachid, president of the Argentine Federation for Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals and Transsexuals, according to the news agency. Gomez Alsina's injunction could not overturn the earlier ruling because she is a trial-level judge and not an appellate judge, Rachid said. The original ruling was made on November 10 by another trial-level judge, Gabriela Seijas, who responded to a petition made by Freyre and di Bello. Seijas ruled that the ban on same-sex marriage was illegal and ordered the proper authorities to grant the couple a marriage license if they applied for one. The court's decision applied only to Buenos Aires. Same-sex unions in most of Argentina remain illegal. "The law should treat each person with equal respect in relation to each person's singularities without the need to understand or regulate them," Seijas said in her ruling. Buenos Aires Mayor Mauricio Macri said after the ruling that his government would not appeal the decision. Monday's ruling was a temporary measure to postpone the marriage until Seijas' original ruling could be reviewed in depth, presumably by an appeals court or the supreme court, the court statement said Countries in Latin America, a region strongly identified with the Catholic Church, have recently given more attention to gay rights. In September Uruguay became the first Latin American country to allow same-sex adoption. Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador are also addressing the issue of same-sex civil unions.

I'm a little confused. How much was the total you actually paid for everything? Also, where is Phayathai?

Yes, strolling along Dongtan is easy, but it's always the same set of "farang hunter" boys every day, with maybe a few different boys once in a while. However, yes, it's very easy. While spending the money and dealing with the bar scene works for you, not everyone who comes here for a holiday wants to do that or wants to limit themselves to the bar scene. These online personals sites offer an excellent alternative. Regarding Gay Romeo, I'll bet you wouldn't be online more than 5 minutes, if that long, before you get messages from boys who are ready to come over to you immediately. If you check your Email while you're on a holiday here or are on the Internet for any other reason, you might as well try Gay Romeo, if you're so inclined. You can also make some arrangements via Gay Romeo before you even travel to Thailand. Gay Romeo is very good. Don't sell it short or tell yourself, "I can't be bothered" until you give it a try.
-
I'm not so sure I would agree with you. On Gay Romeo you chat with the boy. Then, if you both decide to meet, most of the time the boy will come over to wherever you are staying or wherever else you want to first meet, at an agreed upon time. No bars, no pushy mama-sans, no "What number you like?", no "What you name? Where you come from?" while getting your thigh rubbed, no drinks for the boy, and no off fees. What could be easier than that?
-
As far as I know it's still there, but not under that name and location. It's been a couple years since I last checked, but if it still exists, now it's called Madam Ed's and it's on Soi Sabaijai, a soi off Sukhumvit, just south of Pattaya Klang (Central Road). That's the Pattaya side of Sukhumvit, not the Dark Side. By the time you're done, you're looking at anywhere from 1500 baht to 2000 baht for this kind of massage. If I'm around there and actually remember to do it, I'll check and let you know for sure. The business card is the one I picked up when I went to have a look two years ago. Neither of the telephone numbers shown are working, so I don't know if they're still open, but at the moment this is the best information I have until I have a chance to drop by and see for myself.

Well, a command of coherent English is not a prerequisite for using Gay Romeo. Often, when I take Thai writing and try to use Google Translate, the result I get is gibberish. I'm guessing that some of these boys write what they want to say in Thai, use something like Google Translate, and then copy and paste the resulting English into their post, without realizing that they ended up with gibberish and most farang will not be able to understand what they are trying to say.
