Taking boys on a trip outside Thailand, steely stares of disapproval
hank75 replied to JimmyJoe's topic in Gay Thailand
I am sure you will be successful. Filipino boys are warm, affectionate, communicative, and their good English is definitely a bonus. BUT they are less trustworthy than Thai boys, scams are common. So be very careful. Sometimes the entire family (girlfriend/wife/brother/sister/parents/in laws) are in on the plot to take advantage of the stupid foreigner and it may not be as simple as just asking you for money. You can still find a good guy. Just have to keep your wits about you. -
Ok i understand you, and while this is where I would beg to differ...in my mind, great service + great looks is where “perceived value” has now most definitely turned into “real value”, precisely the type of value I go looking for in bars. But having been dragged into a cyclical argument on another thread before I can certainly understand why you would like to bow out now and spend your forum time more productively.

I forgot that I promised an update on Err Infinity (a very strange name for a host club!). I asked my friend to get his friend’s thoughts....according to her, she didn’t enjoy it very much. Possibly because she went on a weekday, it was quite crowded but no live shows or much entertainment, mainly drinking and people watching. It is open until 4 am so most people arrive at 1 am after other venues close. Very local crowd, lots of good looking Thai girls in their 20s and the hosts seem catered to this market. Also seems that the real life girlfriends of the host boys will bring their friends so there is lots of socialising amongst themselves. The boys were very attractive and lots of them. You can call a manager over and he will line up about ten boys with a flashlight for you to pick from. She also said there was an older couple with a table, and a gay man who had four boys to himself. So they are accepting of gay male patrons too.

Without additionally fanning the flames here (paborn - you make some good points, and of course this is also based on personal opinion) - I would like to point out that apart from delivering a fantastic looking exterior, so far we have had nothing but generally good reports from Moonlight model offs, Fluke, Nicky, and even York. Good attitude, good service, no rushing etc. My expat friend has a female acquaintance who pays a staggering amount to off Tam, so I suppose this is what you term the “niche”. But obviously she is happy, because he certainly goes above and beyond for her from what I hear. With this type of service coupled with their looks, how can you say they do not bring “real value”? It seems to me this is exactly the type of value customers are looking for and if you have to pay a premium, fair enough. Compared to a 1500 short time off who may be cheap and cute but fail to deliver, as we have all personally experienced at one time or another.

As the drink prices and off fees are fixed, I am unsure where “haggling” comes in- the only haggling is with the boy regarding his tip which is paid in cash anyway. I have never had a bad experience paying with credit card in bars. The check is always correct. Moonlight’s credit card facility is actually operated under the Hot Male business registration so I assume Hot Male too accepts cards.

These are not your bars of choice so I am not sure how helpful this is...but I have paid for drinks and off fee at Jupiter, Moonlight and Dreamboy by credit card. Happily accepted by management.

Also because muscle guys tend to be older? Past the age and stage of selling themselves cheap, they know what they’re worth.

I enjoyed this trip report, thank you for sharing your adventures

In the latest Loy Krathong ads (especially the group photo with Babe and Tae) Nicky has quite a peculiar smile...really reminds me that he looks like Jasper’s aunt!

Taking boys on a trip outside Thailand, steely stares of disapproval

Ah I see because I was about to ask if you’ve found out yet who’s naughty or nice? -

I agree with you, but my comment was in relation to the boy’s public affection and lack of shyness within a hi-so setting. Out of keeping with his usual demeanour as well as my expectation of where he might feel “comfortable” enough to be demonstrative. On a side note it always amuses me to no end when I pull open the mini bar drawer in a high end Bangkok hotel and find a thoughtful pack of condoms next to the Oreos. -

In fact that was it exactly - I was on an expensed work trip and had him over to stay at a very nice 5 star in the Siam area! I was taken aback, but the bellhop took it in his stride....I suppose you do see it all working at a high end hotel. -
I’m sure this boy got it wrong (mixed messages on the go go boy grapevine?) but I was informed that Soi 4 too would be redeveloped. Has anyone heard of this?

I wonder if this is true or perhaps just up to the individual boy? I am not questioning you but was also under the assumptions Thais were more reserved in public. And I was rather surprised when the boy gave me a big farewell hug and Thai sniff under the watchful eyes of the hotel bellhop....I was the uncomfortable one! -
Just Bangkok, and trust me the boys know exactly where to go to stay out until 4 am! I have been to all sorts of clubs but Fake and Thonglor clubs do blow a hole in one’s wallet.

Funnily enough, my Moonlight regular friend was just telling me that two of the boys took his female friend to this host club, apparently it is quite the after-hours spot and they have friends working there. I’ll ask what she thought of it and report back.

Great recommendations paborn. I will look these all up and report back on findings. Bangkok People sounds right up my alley.

Just remember to have the photo viewing option available on your e-reader. These candid snaps of his trip bring the story to life. The author also embeds a few YouTube videos, link here for members who are curious but can’t purchase ebooks: https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCn3ib1_z19dpkU4bvNkS0xA

I only read in English but can look for books in Bangkok on my next trip, or ask a friend to search for me. The funny experiences by farang teachers, anything humorous, or insightful about local customs sounds good to me. If you could recommend one of the better written accounts by a former bar girl that could be very interesting too. Naturally I am most interested in reading about the Bangkok gay or boybar scene, fact or fiction, but accept publications on this subject may be few.

As Amazon ebooks, they seem to be available now on the UK not US sites. Easy to change your country settings for a one time purchase. Edit: Private Dancer also available in paperback too, this is about the bargirl not barboy scene.

Had a feeling I was going to get trolled LOL. If Tolstoy wrote a compelling saga of love, murder, hatred and politics on the sois of Silom, bring it on.

The question is, do these farang women off the boys? I know some of the Asian women do. Or are they just one-off giggly tourists? I read an interesting article (on Stickman I believe- will try to find the link) about farang women living the bohemian life on Pattaya beaches and getting pregnant by local boys.

I have just finished Bangkok Boy Bar by Richard Vohl and Private Dancer by Stephen Leather. Both great reads and highly recommended, though the former is slightly romanticised and ascribes a far greater conversational depth to young bar boys than I know they are capable of, particularly those newly from the countryside without much English. Any other recommendations to while away long weekends? Non-fiction guides also welcome - I was inspired to ask by paborn’s mention of guide books to Bangkok’s early 80s gay scene in another thread.
-
I understand and fully agree, with the one caveat that the boy in question has been asking to visit my home country - in which case, most definitely he is the one on vacation not me. Yes of course I have the pleasure of his company, but I already have that in Bangkok which is the overall more enjoyable location for me.

Fantastic report ggobkk, can’t wait for the next chapter! Particularly enjoyed your description of Soph, I am only surprised he wasn’t the first item on your Pattaya agenda with assets like these. Is it usual to have so many females in Pattaya bars? I was under the impression that only Bangkok bars like Jupiter, Moonlight, Dreamboy etc attracted the Asian female demographic.
