Sorry, this thought came up after my first response. Do you read Portuguese better than Spanish? I am quite sure if you read him in any language other than Portuguese or Spanish, a lot will be lost in translation.

I thought of this thread when I was writing Alan's review. He was quite out of my comfort zone, this time I dared to go there thanks to the empathic recommendations from other clients. I am reading a very recommendable book: The Routledge Handbook of Male Sex Work, Culture, and Society. It is a compilation of essays around male sex work grouped by thematic categories. It was published in the main national progressive newspaper, and references a book about an episode not very known even amongst Argentineans. I happened to know about it because my parents are from, and I was born in Esquina, a small town in Corrientes province. One of the most prominent buildings in the city was in my childhood, and still is nowadays, the local Escuela Normal, founded by one of the US teachers brought to Argentina by Sarmiento. Both of my parents graduated from that school as Elementary School teachers. It is written in Spanish. You can see the book cover below. I agree. I would lobe to say that I fully agree, but your remark about "Muslim countries w harsh penalties" makes me uncomfortable. Whether or not a country is Muslim, if homosexuality is being actively persecuted and prosecuted, I would keep myself away from it. I took risks when I visited Morocco, but I was younger and omnipotent, I had a crush on the Beatnik poets, and back in the 90s it was still very European influenced and tolerant. I do not know you, so I do not know from what culture you are looking at Brazil. It is not just an open minded culture, most people coming from a Puritan influenced cultures do not get that. They do not relate sex with brothels necessarily, although they have nothing against them. When I was in Rio last November, Rhyheim was hosting his invited stars in Ipanema hotels.
