I am contemplating a trip later in the year but can’t decide between Barcelona or São Paulo. Another way of asking the question is Thermas in Barcelona v Lagoa in São Paulo. I have been to São Paulo 9 times the last time 8 years ago and have never been to Lagoa in its current location. I have been to Barcelona about 5 times most recently last year. Comments by seasoned travellers who have sampled both in recent times much appreciated.

Thanks for this thread. I am thinking of returning to Brazil later this year but the visa rigmarole is a disincentive. In years gone by I used a visa service agent here in Sydney where I would leave my passport, documents and they would complete the application form and I would return a few days later with my visa. Those days are gone I’m afraid.

We are at an age when we can’t get it any other way not for any other esoteric reason.

With respect Tawan has long ceased to have that informal charm you refer to. It certainly did in the early 2000’s. It gradually deteriorated with so called boys tattooed, overweight with their heads in their mobile phones oblivious to all around them.

According to the TripAdvisor reviews Blue Cabin sounds ideal if you don’t mind non existent housekeeping, ceilings that are only 1.7m high, no soundproofing, beds as hard as concrete and being eaten alive by mosquitoes.

An excellent report. Thailand (usually Bangkok), Brazil (Sao Paulo and Rio) and Spain (Barcelona) are my usual holiday destinations of choice so we have similar tastes. Just a few thoughts. I agree that nothing can beat the Brazilian saunas for action. I vividly recall my first experiences of Lagoa in São Paulo. The negatives are safety particularly Rio where I have been mugged and the difficulties of getting there from Australia. The added annoyance is the reintroduction of visas. Barcelona is a wonderful city and certainly safer than the main Brazilian cities. I do like Thermas and frequent it often enough when I’m there although I don’t think it is quite as good as the well know São Paulo and Rio equivalents. Thailand has a wonderful culture, the people are fabulous, plenty of action although not to the same extent as the other mentioned locations. We agree on that. In summary Bangkok is one those places that I just like being there. Bangkok in May is my next port of call.
