In Spain, both in Barcelona and Madrid, there were a few guys at Boyberry and standing around the outside of a few gay bars / clubs that were super hot and could have been by the hour. That stated, I simply assumed that the Abercrombie surfer dude or moderate sized but cute and muscular latin types were just regular folks. Hello Folks:
This is not intended to be a discussion of whether or not to get a CPF. For me the decision was easy as on prior trips, things would have been easier and less expensive with a CPF. For those only spending a short time in Brazil it might not be worth applying - up to you. No doubt there is more than 1 way to do this, but the method I found via the doterra.com website was accurate and I received an email with my CPF number in less than 1 week. Once received, I printed out the document. For a longer stay in Brazil, I would suggest printing several copies and keeping one on your cell phone. The doterra instructions were very helpful. There is no cost to apply.

Use your full name, including any middle name, as your name on the application must match that of your non Brazilian passport.
Not sure how or if the Brazilian folks processing the application know about mom, but put a first and last name, not just a maiden last name.
Save a pdf of the Brazil generated application form with your information on it, print it, sign it and scan it. You will send this back to Brazil via email, along with the items below.  
Perform a good quality scan of your passport picture and signature pages.
Get a good quality head (selfie) photo with your passport’s face picture along with the ID information on that passport page clearly showing by your head.
I pasted all 3 into a MS Word document and sent that back to Brazil via email. Put your name, date, and application number on each page. I also made a pdf copy of the word document to send back to them as well, along with the signed application form as a separate document, so 2 pdf documents and 1 MS Word document were attached. I also put my full name, date, and application number in the email subject line. I also included a short application memo in English and google translated to Portuguese (as my language skills are not perfect) in the email body – which included my address, phone number and email address.

I had great luck on Grindr with regular guys as in the past. I think I only saw 1 pay for play boy and I was not interested.
In Athens the Kosmopolit Cinema is closed. There are folks hanging out in the alley away from Onomia Square and towards the police station half a block away. Usually only 1-4 at a time, and I assume mostly druggies. There is one nice looking guy from pre COVID days that does hang out in front of the Cosmopolit Hotel occasionally. He also hangs out with the druggies too, LOL. Sometimes the police hang out in this area and thus there is no trade to be had. The hotel can still be used by the hour. 30 E for the guy and 10 E for the hotel. Only saw a very other folks hanging around and possibly plying trade in this area and towards Omonia Square sort of at the side of the Hondos Center and alley / street. Another hotel by the hour is the youth hostel on a perpendicular street about 2 blocks away. 10 E for 1 hour. Only saw women hanging out for trade here. The park north of the archeological museum still has some action, but far less than in the old days. The park is moderately large and I only walked around the several block areas near the Athena statue and entrance Konstantinos on horseback statue. Another hotel by the hour is the youth hostel on a perpendicular street about 2 blocks away. 10 E for 1 hour. Only saw women hanging out for trade here. The park north of the archeological museum still has some action, but far less than in the old days. The park is moderately large and I only walked around the several block areas near the Athena statue and entrance Konstantinos on horseback statue. Not sure of the cost, as I was not interested in those offering pay for play. Several potential boys never got away from their cell phones to say hi. All of the guys seemed to be in their 20s - 40s. Be aware that lots of kids and families now hang out in the park. Very few did in the past, when druggies predominated.

When Brazil lost to Croatia, the town seemed to deflate, at least until the Argentina match an hour later !  So, I assume things will normalize here during matches again.
When given a chance, the locals are very nice. More than once I have miscounted my R$ bills and extra bills have always been returned. When dropping things out of torn supermarket bags, folks always let me know.
I do speak some PT and SP – it helps a great deal. However, I am in no way conversant in PT.
I meet several new people each day even if in a line or over a drink. Folks are very friendly here.

Suggested an apt vs hotel and to try staying someplace besides Copa. Great advice. Someone else suggested Leblon, and it is indeed much nicer than Copa. En francais, plus sympa et chic. Yes, it is more expensive. But in sheer Euros, Pounds (Europe’s new “Peso”), or Dollars, not a great increase in costs. Yes, less overall to do as well, but not many people sleeping on the street or begging either. The bars are more like in Europe, so yes, less authentic Brazilian.
On and off over the past weeks the Boys (GPs) and selection have varied greatly. I made mistakes by not asking for their contact info. That said, I do enjoy having different GPs each time. Busy times tend to be later than noted on some postings. Perhaps due to FIFA games. 1930 hrs has often been a good time. Best times I have noted: Tues at 177, Weds at 201/202, Fri at 117, usually good after FIFA matches or 1800-2100 hrs (when shows start).

ATMs like at the M stations often have fees added. Some banks reimburse these costs. Some do not. My cards work only at some BR bank ATMs and not others. Always decline any attempt from the ATM or POS device for a currency conversion. In BR it will cost you 8-15% -  and for nothing – just a bank rip off.
When I go to 117 or 201/202, I always try to have over 500 in cash on me in case I get too horny. I often see punters paying the house bill by cc or debit card. Yes, the drink prices are not inexpensive. I often buy a drink for me and the GP before or after a programma. In BR always let a business know if your card is debit or credito in advance. Tapping the card reader almost always works. Yes, there often a conversion fee from your bank or cc company. It could be as low as 1%. Experience has taught me the best cards to use abroad.
Use lots of sunblock at the beach – better to be a bit un tanned than being burned !!

All of this information is pre Covid:
You can ask for and find clinics that handle HIV related issues in BR. Meds are dispensed at the clinic and only with the prescription of the MD at the free clinic. There is one adjacent to M Siq Campos near 202. Another is in Catete up the road towards a favella. Meds are free. You might only receive an emergent supply for one month. HIV meds are often not available at regular retail pharmacies/ druggists. 
it would be helpful to have printed medical records and an actual written prescription even if from abroad. Please bring your passport. You will likely be entered into Brazil’s health system. Please go to the clinic early in the morning - a same day overbook appointment can be possible (unheard of in many countries for our non emergencies here).
Speaking some PT and being very patient also helps. But please do not abuse such kindness to non Brazilians and keep in mind how stressed the national health is. 
Please be aware that several meds can be used as prep or for HIV care. Therefore you might be offered different meds than you use now. Yes, I know, not all studies say other meds are equally effective. But at least you can have meds vs not having any, and the new meds should be quite effective. You can check your country’s consulate in Rio as well. Swiss is just down the street from 117 !! They might know local doctors within your health plan or other ways to receive RX in Brazil. 
As for pill loading, AUC or area under the curve explains doses and timings to achieve needed anti viral levels. Having a good science or maybe engineering background really helps. Please do not suggest unsafe or ineffective doses or timings in the Forum.
Bringing lots of pills: one might think that explanation to your GP etc for 6 months of pills for a big trip would provide the needed RX. Every health plan is different and some meds might be affordable if obtained outside the health plan - some might be too dear to purchase outside the plan. 
I think Truvada and Kaletra can be used for prep. Some countries allow generics. See if your country does - it can lower costs dramatically. Rules for US or Canada or UK or Germany etc health plans and pills are all likely completely different. No idea if any travel insurances cover this - but I doubt it. Some countries allow travel health coverage but it is likely limited to things like broken legs and heart attacks. It can also be very expensive. 
 
The topic begs the question of should we develop a list of a few doctors or nurses for any needs abroad like in Brazil, Thailand, etc?
